i hear GREAT things about TIG welding. unfortunately i've only had my experiences with MIG. I like it, but what i hear about TIG makes me think that its the best way....
I can MIG pretty good. I get a very consistent flux core bead while others make nothing but bird poo with it. I have MIG'd with gas also, which is a lot better. I have dabble with TIg for a minute (literally). I liked it, but it seemed difficult since you have to heat the metal, then look for the hot spot and add rod. again I only got to do that for a minute. didn't want to waste my firend's gas.
Yea TIG is where its at but it can be challenging. Cool thing is you can weld aluminum though. In general, its just a much more precise method. Lincoln precision 450 is what i want. I can settle for less but we'll see.

Have you tried it? Its a whole different beast compared to MIG. After a few feet of butt-welds my whole body aches, LOL.

Oops confused with my home welder, my shop welder is a Miller DYNASTY® 200 SD , I like it, its very portable and weighs probably 25lbs. havnt had any problems and use it probably 6 hours a day everyday.
Oh nice. Ive welded with a brand new miller at school (forgot exact model) but its pretty damn big. I straight up didnt like it. i loved the older miller sync 350lx's. Whatever the new one was just didnt work for me. Of course the lincoln i want is perfect for me.

what happend to the DD ef??
B17fourthgenhatch: What is the deal with your EF buddy? I remeber seeing pics of it years ago, is there anything new, do you still have it etc...??
And to join the welding conversation, I have limited expereince with ARC welding, and moderate expereince with mig welding. I am no pro, but i can make it hold pressure or stay together. I also used flux core vs. gas; there is no comparison the gas make for a much more consistent weld
I would love to do TIG and aluminum welding however i have a hard time plunking down for a TIG when i barely have time to practice/fab w/ the mig. I know you can buy aluminum wire for a MIG, has anyone tried that??
btw, long live the EF thread

Yup still got it. Im just not a huge fan of posting pics right after i make the slightest of changes, LOL. A lot has changed from a years ago though. Maybe i can talk Nihkon into snapping a few pics of my car and his this weekend.

Well I had some lovely things happen the last couple days. On Wednesday on the way to work at 6:15am the motor died in the sedan, leaving me stranded on the side of a major highway. I had to leave it and get a ride to work. So yesterday I called to have it towed and the guy said to unlock it and leave the key in it, so I went over there at about 1 in the afternoon, unlocked it, left the key because he said he'd be there in 30 minutes to tow it to a friends house. Later the friend called and said, "Hey, you know someone stole your cd player?" Never mind the $265 Nardi steering wheel, let's steel the $50 Walmart CD player.
I had about 50 CDs in there and those are gone. I haven't been over to check it out, yet, but I bet my Oakleys are gone, too.
That wasn't the worst news. The timing belt broke. It only has about 108k miles on it. When I bought it the previous owner didn't know if it had been changed or not, but since it looked so well maintained I thought surely it had been.
I have heard that it's less likely to have valves bend in a SOHC. Is there any truth to that, or is there a 50/50 chance my motor is shot?

They most likely arent bent since the d series is such a low compression. I had a water pump sieze on me once with my d15b2. stripped most of the teeth off the belt and went way off timing. bought a new belt, and reset the timing and it was fine. btw: setting timing on d-series SUCKS!

Still got it, i got the crx, the dd ef and my yota truck.
Na, i broke a t belt on my b16a and the valves where fine. You might be better off just looking for a block (any low milage d16 88-01) and drop it in too. Sohcs are cheep.

Yeah, I sold that D from my hatch for $40.
I'm praying the valves are good because that motor ran beautifully, barely broke in at 108k. The timing couldn't have been better, right before Christmas.
