Is that right? I'm still hearing mixed reports, LCA's still going bad, clutchmasters, as well as blown coilovers

I personally wouldn't use them, not because I've had a problem with them but or different reasons....if they're good then by all means

Never that, I'm performance minded. I don't do things to show off </TD></TR></TABLE>
why don't you just get taller tires for the 16's? potholes bend bigger wheels easier.

its your ride, but it makes no sense to go from a 16 inch wheel to a 17 inch wheel to protect a lip kit.
btw, my 20's with tires are shorter in height than my 16's and 17's were.. it all in the tire choice. rim size and tire size are two different things.

Because I think this your asking a better definition as too why I want to change rim size. 17's will raise my car up, the potholes probably won't damage my rim (they're not that bad ). But the object is to make more distance from my lip kit to the street as possible. Plus I'll be able to buy the 11.5 big brake up grade for the front and the 10.9 for the back and I'd have to use 3mm (which I'm opposed too) on 16's. I was going to go with Spoon calipers (four pod) but that's not enough stopping power for a circuit course. Oddly enough the big brake upgrade and the Spoon calipers cost the same amount of money

no, I get what you're saying... but buying bigger wheels doesn't raise a car off the ground, a taller overall diameter would.. I'm saying you could have a taller overall diameter with 16's, just get a different size(taller) tire. if the 16's and 17's share the same outer diameter, the 17's are more suseptable to damage because of a shorter profile tire. brakes are a damn good reason(if not THE BEST reason) for bigger wheels, if you're going it for brakes that's cool, but going with a bigger diameter wheel to save a lip kit in a city full of potholes is bogus.. I(and I'm sure alot of otehrs) would rather hurt a lipkit than damage a brand spankin new volk.

I'm jsut throwing my $.02 out there as I did ALOT of research before buying new wheels and tires for my truck.. the biggest mistake made by most when buying new wheels is thinking they have to run a certain tire size with a certain diameter wheel.

edit: dammit, looks like I'm back to writing novels... sorry for the long post.

With EP's the tire profile would be the same, I would still be running 45's 205/45/16 or 195/45/17 (I'm not sure of the width of the 17's).

that tells me two things, there's enough space to run a taller tire on the 16's or the 17's will rub.
once again, there are more choices to run in tire size than what everone else runs.

a 205/45/16 is 23.3" tall, a 195/45/17 is 23.9" tall... .6 of an inch will not do much to save your lip kit.. though, I would hope the tires for the 17's are wider so heights will differ if that isn't the correct width.. it's a step down IMO to go from a 205 to a 195 width.
