VooDoo cycles are famous for cracking/snapping at the seat tube. never seen a fisher/treck do it though. that sucks man, should definitely be a warranty issue if its not too old.

ted shred, jump off, crash it, flintstone it... whatever, but how often do chains break? it's not often.
i don't know about everyone else but my bike is so simple it takes me 5-10 minutes to look over every bolt on the damn thing, nevermind i keep my chain pretty damn clean and tend to replace it every 3-4 months when it starts to get noisy.
you sound like my damn mother, nobody is asking you why you're driving a 1.6EL, right? actually, my mom doesn't even ask questions like that, she just tells me to wear a helmet.

I worked at a bike shop, and we had some hubs laying around I modded for my bmx.. the rear brakes didnt work for **** so I thought might as well. plus skidding with the pedals brings back 6-year old biking memories
i like fixed gears a lot, and most of my friends ride them, but i like to ride a single speed considering the fact i dont really feel safe on a fixed gear. thrashin, i think we may know each other. or at least recognize each other by face.
ride a front brake, i don't want to ride brakeless, unless i was only at a track, **** happens on the roads and i don't need to look 'hardcore' for me to enjoy the ride

worrying about the chain braking is like worrying about your brake cable snapping. If it does, react accordingly. I've stripped a hub going about 20 mph while backpedalling down a steep hill in Seattle. I unclipped(I ride clipless), and flinstoned it in about 2 seconds! I don't even remember what I did, it was like 2nd nature. I wore out the bottom of my new Shimano MTB shoes though

thats cool, are you riding flatland, or maybe just cruising around? doesnt it make it hard to get up onto ledges, or to ride transition? I can bunny hop up onto curbs with my track bike but not much higher than that. I'm just curious, I rode bmx for years and would never think about going to a fixed gear

yeah, it's tricky. turns are usually pretty quick, between overlap & pedal-ground clearance, there's only a small window of opportunity.
