P.s. gotta get up in five hours and head out to this (After riding a 40 mile round trip commute + critical mass + 8 hours of peddicabbing last night...ughh):

Off to the sack on that note...

I'm still working on balancing myself on them, but thank you for the observation I will definitely try to pay attention to that as not to develop bad pedaling habits.

Sun was out for the past couple days in Portland, so of course the boys hit the streets on the bikes. Was great to see. Bikes everywhere, best of all, despite the stereotypes, every one gets along and admires others bikes.

Quick question:

I just got a Chris King wheelset for my mountain bike, and man those effin hubs are smooth and just wanna keep spinning, also have been cruising on the trails up a gear or two. So my 7th gear feels like Im riding in 5th, going a lot faster, just from wheelset change, also dropped 1.2 lbs.

So my question is, would it be the same effect on a fixed gear moving from a formula hub to say a Dura Ace? Would it make a longer gear inch feel like my current setup at 46x16 which I think is like 78 GI IIRC?

I haven't built new wheels yet, so Im not speaking from experience, but friends have told me that its an even more noticable difference. Maybe its because there's less sources of mechanical drag, so your hubs are a huge factor of whats left.

You should try a 48t chainring. Especially here in flat Florida. You'll still be plenty peppy around town but wont be spinning your *** off. Down side w that ratio is you'll only have one skid patch, so if you skid/skip a lot you'll have to deflate and spin your tire once in a while. Going with a higher tooth count gear combo (i.e. 48x16 instead of 46x15 or something) will also take some more drag out of the equation.

I think the ideal ratio ive found is 49x17. Right now im riding 49x16 , and its nice on flat, but hard on hills. Ive ridden my friends 49x17 and love it
