Top hat is taller allowing the shaft to sit higher, making the piston sit higher in the shock. Thus the piston can sit in the correct position inside the shock giving the shock more travel...besides giving a better ride the shock wont blow since the piston isnt sitting hella low.
thank you
Haha kevinm you're hilarious. I'm sure if someone wants their car at stock height they're not going to pay $500+ for konis. If anything they would change the springs. Not everyone on konis is slammed, but most are lowered. God, I hope when I'm 30 or whatever you are I'm not unemployed and have to resort to starting pointless arguments on the internet.
And yes, the sp3 is a koni strut that is like 20mm shorter than the regular yellow ones. If you are all the way on gc's then you would definitely want to invest in an aftermarket strut that can handle being lowered.

to be honest, this weekend i removed the perch and adjustment rings on the gcs and im just running the GC springs that came with the coilovers. no more threaded sleeve/collars
girlfriend drove it today to work

edit: did work on it this weekend. removed 3 coils from the ground control spring lol. removed the threaded collar and perches.
rides like absolute ****.
yeah if you did that to them, holy crap. that is how low my coupe was on the springs i had now on the lowest perch. just sat on the shock tower, with no tophats. lol.
