I have a Kenwood deck in my EM1 and the keyless works just fine. It is the only deck in my car. I have extra keyless entry receivers if anyone would need one. The 96-98 civics did have the receiver in the deck but not the 99-2000 civics.

im not denying that this works but for some reason I remember seeing A LOT of people saying that in order for the keyless entry to work with the factory remote that the stock head unit needs to stay connected. You can hook up the keyless entry through a third party alarm, but otherwise if you dont have an alarm and you want to install an aftermarket head unit and keep the keyless entry, you need to keep the stock head unit plugged in. If that isnt the case the good, the better off em1 owners are but I always was told and heard otherwise.

ive done some research and all are saying that for 99/00 the keyless receiver isnt located in the head unit but rather driver side kick panel as stated before.

ill find out for sure and buy an aftermarket head unit.

I do not have an aftermarket alarm. Only the aftermarket headunit and everything works like it did from the factory. I beleive people have gotten confused about the differences in headunits between 96-98 and 99-00 civics. I never post to a thread unless I know for a fact through my own personal experience. There is to much hear-say on this board already. For future reference if you need to or want to remove your aftermarket alarm you can still use your keyless entry as long as you still have the remotes. I hope I helped to answer your questions and not cause any confusion.

Yes the 96-98 civics had the idiot designed keyless system in the head unit. It was a bitch when I had my 96 4dr civic and wired in my aftermarket unit. I had to jam the stock unit way back in the center console and keep the keyless plugged up. Honda wised up in 99 and had the keyless hooked up behind the driver kick panel. It's the white plastic thing you see near the foot rest.

I just bough one of those new pioneer units with the pigtail USB port. Nice to have all my songs not skip or scratch anymore, plus it was on sale here in GA because Circuit City is closing all of their stores. Mine was $50 off.

You can remove the radio and have it working still.

Man this thread moves slow.

Damn we need some more pictures!
I am so bored right now. I am stuck in LA waiting for the weather to clear so I can go home to Portland. But they said the earliest will probably be Monday...ugh. So much for my Seahawks vs. Jets tickets I have for tomorrow.
