Yeah that badboy can do 4 times the laps before needing refueling, and 5 seconds is HUGE in a real race. If a race has 70 laps, the vette is lapped 5 times. Pretty disgraceful.

which is why they don't race in the same class. see above post. I am also aware that 5 seconds is an enormous gap, but take into consideration the weight and power penalties that a c6 suffers against the r8. do you see any other production cars in that 5 second gap?

What I really mean is, anyone with enough cash behind them can be a good driver in Formula 1 or any race circuit for that matter.
Jon is right though, the Corvette is the United States' race car. From when it was tearing up tracks in the late 50s to ripping Laguna Seca a new one, it's what the US has and they are very nice cars. But like someone quoted above, you really can't drive them everyday or own them twice

I'm not going to go out and take on the world in a bog standard 207 now am i?

if there were equally capable production cars available... don't you think they would make race versions?
i don't even feel like i need to argue this point. if you can't see the inherent resemblences behind the designs of a c6 z06 and a c6-r, there's more wrong with you than just owning a del sol

Wrong again. Ford is the only company that represents the U.S. to the outside world but they did it by Embracing a European approach. Remember the GT40?
Ford WRC wouldn't be where they are today without Cosworth.
And lets not forget they needed the British to make Aston Martin what it is today.
