may i offer up a list of some of the top 10 lap records at Laguna Seca?

2006 Toyota Formula 1 Car (Track Record) 1:06.309
2000 Champ Car(Helio Castroneves) 1:07.722
2004 Champ Car 1:09.358
Zytek 04S 1:14.185
Lola EX257/AER 1:14.906
Audi R8 1:15.392
Chevrolet Corvette C6-R 1:20.719
Star Mazda pole in 2006 1:20
Porsche 911 GT3 RSR 1:25.406
C Sports Racer race record, Michael Vergers, Radical, 08/03/2002 1:27.673

thats right, only 5 seconds off of this badboy

6 seconds off him

and him

corvette was FASTER than:

and

WHICH may i remind you holds the LAP RECORD at the ring?

and good luck driving those to get the groceries

all it took was a little bit of this

so i rest my case, the corvette is the best car ever to have been sold in north america.

yes, but there are NO production versions of the other cars on the list, minus the porsche.

and saying the c6r is nothing like the c6 is the same as saying the gt3 is nothing like the gt3 rsr on the list

I guess thats why American drivers never make it to serious competitions such as Formula 1.

Yeah that badboy can do 4 times the laps before needing refueling, and 5 seconds is HUGE in a real race. If a race has 70 laps, the vette is lapped 5 times. Pretty disgraceful.

The two-car, factory-backed Chevrolet sports car program will compete in the production-based GT1 class (formerly GTS) of American Le Mans Series as well as the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, a race where the Corvette has won its class for three out of the past four years. </TD></TR></TABLE>

which is why they don't race in the same class. see above post. I am also aware that 5 seconds is an enormous gap, but take into consideration the weight and power penalties that a c6 suffers against the r8. do you see any other production cars in that 5 second gap?

Jon is right though, the Corvette is the United States' race car. From when it was tearing up tracks in the late 50s to ripping Laguna Seca a new one, it's what the US has and they are very nice cars. But like someone quoted above, you really can't drive them everyday or own them twice

But you were stressing how you wanted a c6, then you start going on how the c6R is the lap record at such n such track or whatever, that's like me saying I want a pug 207 and then going on about the WRC car. not really a comparison is it? I'm not going to go out and take on the world in a bog standard 207 now am i?

if there were equally capable production cars available... don't you think they would make race versions?

i don't even feel like i need to argue this point. if you can't see the inherent resemblences behind the designs of a c6 z06 and a c6-r, there's more wrong with you than just owning a del sol

Yeah but the Audi is a diesel. Not exactelly a performance fuel.

Not true. None of us could drive a F1 car. If that were true every rich kid would be an F1 driver. It's not called the elite for nothing.

Wrong again. Ford is the only company that represents the U.S. to the outside world but they did it by Embracing a European approach. Remember the GT40?

Ford WRC wouldn't be where they are today without Cosworth.
And lets not forget they needed the British to make Aston Martin what it is today.

I'm trying to make you see differences, it's like comparing a DC2 si vtec to a 98 spec ITR, it's just not cricket innit? You want a road registered dealer car and your quoting times from a purpose built race car
