dude. you WILL NOT get anywhere near OEM with a roller and some rustoleum. you can think that as much as you want, but you're just lying to yourself. an OEM paint job is about as good a paint job as you can get outside of some $5,000+ custom job. thats a fact.

When I say "as good as an OEM paint job" I mean the look of it.

The durability and what have you of rustolem is good, but I agree an OEM paint job is more, for lack of a better word, reliable.

But i've seen some HORRIBLY painted OEM cars. Orange peel out the ***.

My brothers Saturn has pretty bad orange peel, my friends Civic has pretty bad orange peel, I see it all the time driving down the road.

There is an extremely limited amount of orange peel on my car, definately less than a lot of the OEM cars that i've seen. So when I say "as good as OEM" thats what I mean.

I'm telling you, if you haven't seen a car painted like this in person, don't knock it until you've seen it.

Thanks for that,

Yeah I guess i'm young, i'm 19. This is my first car but I still stand behind what I say.

Heres another guys Miata.

If thats not close to OEM, I don't know what is. Are you seriously going to try to tell me that doesn't look professional?

Thats a roller, Rustolem, and Polish.... AND HES STILL NOT DONE!

More ignorance.

This stuff holds up. You can't just scratch it like that. It doesn't flake off or anything. Rustolem is ment to bond to metal, and it does. Plus, its easier to repair. You don't shoot any clear on it.

I like how you just dodged a comment on the quality of the look.

its funny how you judge quality by "looks"

hows that for dodging a question?

ebay coilovers "look" like name brands, but i bet they ride like ****.
many c/f hoods "look" like quality brands, but i bet they hold up like garbage in comparison.

need some more examples?

Sorry, I'm going to have to agree with "the kid" here. My DA cost me $1500...the day I dump $3k into paint for this car is when hell freezes over. That's something a "young guy with his first car" would do.

I agree, it's not sprayed on, not done in a climate controlled building, but again, I would venture to say that 95% of "enthusiasts" wouldn't be able to tell the difference if it was well done and polished to a mirror finish.

No, you're dodging it again though.

Coil overs are actually a "performance part" so quality makes a difference

Paint is paint. I could race any car with any paint on it and it would perform the same, whether the paint was $2000 or 2 dollars.

The paint holds up, I already told you that. Now i'm asking you.

Do you think that the pictures above look OEM or better?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I agree, it's not sprayed on, not done in a climate controlled building, but again, I would venture to say that 95% of "enthusiasts" wouldn't be able to tell the difference if it was well done and polished to a mirror finish.

Exactly, so what difference does it make?

i would venture to say that 95% of those 95% are retards if they can't tell the difference....again, i'm done arguing. your $50 roller paint job will not "perform" like an OEM one.

Morasso I think your missing the point. Usdm420 isn't saying it doesn't "look" good. But an OEM looks 100% better. You see OEM orange peel so what. The finish was never sanded a million times like the roll on. I work at a body shop and work with, see, fix the OEM finish all the time. My buddy has also done the roll on job and yea it "looks" good. But I would love to see it last 15-20 years.

Bottom line OEM finish is more durable and just all around better than roll on jobs.

BINGO....and that being said, its hardly "camparable"

for every few factory cars that come out with flawed OEM paint, there's TONS that stand the test of time with proper maintenance....and by "maintenance" i don't mean rolling on a touch up coat every 6 months.

That it is, and I'm not "hating".....again, just trying to save yourself from future embarassment saying "roll-on paintjobs are comparable to OEM"

Say something like "they look good for what they are" or something like that.
