The way i did it was i took out the steering column cover so i had room for my big *** hand to push the switch out from the back. That way you dont break the cover. Yes, speaker wire will work. Weird thing is, i wired mine with no fuse in between. Have yet to short circuit.

I didn't have to remove the steering column thingy.
I just popped out the button and then pulled the switch out with a nail clipper. (couldnt find pliers)
It's recommended to use 12-16 gauge wires. speaker wire might be too thick.

Do it, just make sure you KNOW what you are doing.
Plugs, fuel, etc. Learn it and respect it and you'll be fine and not grenade your motor!

If you're going to be dumped why not get the extended top hats? Why not spend a little more to get quality anyway? Go with the Koni/GC setup. I'm assuming you have upgraded mounts and stiffening in the chassis for your drag setup? It's all up to you what rates you need, no one can tell you what to get.
yeah I do have mounts/traction bar/roll cage/lca couple more...And im pretty low nothing crazy..but yeah im going to order the koni's I believe

thanks

When removing the gauge cluster do you have to disconnect the speedo cable from the tranny?

it would help. it'd give you a lil more slack to play with, especially when putting it back in the car
