DA Integra's Only
I'm willing to bet that you'll get similar performance figures out of both the b16 and the b20. The b20 will be much better for rolling acceleration, or 'real life' performance figures.
so 141whp out of a b16 was fake performance? I would go b16 over b20 any day of the week. I won't mention my Torque numbers because of the "hilarity" that would ensue.
If you get the decent b20 your only 'missing out' on 10hp, and gaining 22lb/ft of useful torque.
I don't remember stating it had fake performance. Just not useful for daily needs. The b16's power curve is hardly flexible for a regular commute. Great if you plan to stay between 6000rpm and redline though.

well you said "real life performance" I DD'd a jdm b16 with S1 trans, exedy stage1 clutch and 9lb exedy flywheel, 130 miles everyday for 2 years. got 29-30mpg all the time. Maybe you and I have a different definition of a regular commute. It was plenty useful. And NO you don't have to stay between 6k and 8200 to have useable power.

Which would be quicker 30-60 in 5th?
How much power do you think a b16 makes under 6000rpm? Probably less then a b20 at the same RPM, and the b20 would have a tonne more torque.
Perhaps my definition of regular commute is different though.
well at my age and place in life, i dont care about 90% of the things you just talked about. For pure enjoyment sake of said 130 mile commute, I enjoyed the B16 and was never disappointed in driveability and performance.
I can tell you how much power i made under 6000 rpms when i take a look at my dyno sheet, when I find it
and i would do a first gear redline pull at least once a day just for fun.
If you enjoy a b20 more then have at ya, but I find your comparisons very biased and naive.

Pick your poison. They both have their shortcomings. Though the original discussion was what would be best for DD'ing, and i wouldn't have picked a b16 with an LS tranny.
ok i think im gonna go ls/vtec since i have a extra b18a1 motor laying around and since im gonna keep my ls tranny its cheaper to go ls vtec or i can spend the same 2500 and just build up my lsvtec and have more power then both a b16 and b20
i have a b20. for the price, it was better then a b16, i think. but if u wanna race, don't waste your time.
whoever decided to put that engine in a CRV was playing a joke on people who drive those things daily. It must be the must underpowered vehicle on the road.

But i was thinking about this a little more yesterday as i was driving around...i think off the line, in traffic or on slower back roads, the B20 is gonna be a little better. However, 50mph and higher, the b16 is gonna be a lot quicker and more fun.
For a DD, i still stick with b20 because of cost effectiveness and ease of installation.
hmm just saw a post of someone putting down 179 whp with 142 lb-ft tq with stock bottom end b16 pistons crower 404 cam skunk im and 64mm tb now thats the numbers im loking for and for a much cheaper price and thats in a non vtec ls lol the gears are tuning in my head again but i also hear that crower 404 is overkill
