i know why they do them. im just sick of them. for the amount of money you spend to initially do the STOCK swap, i could fully build my b-series and finish my car the way i want it and depending on the deals i'd find, still have a lil left over. dont get me wrong, they run amazing. my friend had an eg hatch with a k20 type r engine and it was stupid fast. but i'll still pass until they drastically drop in price and are no longer "the cool thing to do". and honestly, if i was spending that kinda money for a swap, i'd do the v6 swap (yes, it HAS been done for those who dont know. you tube v6 civic)

mine is set at 5200. its been a while since ive red up on this subject, but if i remember correctly its recommended you dont go any lower than that. BUT the best way to find the correct engagement point is to put your car on the dyno and do two pulls. on the first pull set your vtec up past your redline so you do not come into vtec. then a second pull and set your vtec really low. then lay your two maps on top of each other and you'll see where your low end power runs out and where you're top end picks up. then when you tune the car you can smooth it out at your crossover point and tune the fuel correctly.

Yea I seen the V6 Civic. That thing must handle like crap though...And I know what you mean about the cost me and my wife were talking about me doing a K swap. But we decided that for the $8000 or so price I could do a H2b and still have money left for paint and wheels.

How did you figure it handles like crap without having first hand experience ?

The engine w/o transmission wieghs 300lbs roughly.

So your telling me it weighs the same as a K20? I find that hard to believe...I cant find the engine weight chart but a K20 fully dressed weighs 275 and with transmission 400...I remember Brian Gillespe saying that the V6 weighed 400 with no tranmission.

Thats pretty damn light then..I was just going off what I heard and adding 100+ pounds to the front of a Civic would be a under steering nightmare imo.

i was just assuming that being a v-6 and obviously over all bigger in bulk that it would have some pretty decent weight to it. i had nothing to base my statement off of. like i said. just assumed. no need to be hostile about it

just tryin to help ya out man
LoL simma down son, don't mean to toot my own horn but I know my **** well enough. I am building a boosted motor so the Victor X will be fine. With my ported head it will flow enough CFM's that the Victor X will make a HUGE difference over a Skunk2 or ITR.

Tough question, depends all on your supporting mods. I'd say put Vtec til where you feel it kick in and then raise it 100 or 200 RPM.
Just for Ref, I have a 12:8 bottom end with Stg 3 cams and Vtec is set at 5700. Revs high enough though

Why are you sick of them, they are the future! Granted they do cost a bit of money you will never be able to build a B to make as much power or be as reliable as an all motor K for instance..............
People are even making 500 hp on stock bottom ends with a big turbo.
Really price is all in gathering parts. My friend is finishing up his DC K right now and will prolly have only invested 3k in it after he sells his B series parts, not bad if u ask me!

Im not sure what you considerj long but, I took it to the beach and a couple times to tracks that are 2 hours away...Longest trip 3 hours..In the summer time are you wondering about overheating? I only had problems with my stock motor when the hg was blown, but my b16 havent had any problems and I only had an eg half rad in there..I was delievering pizza in the car 3 days a week in the summer time and racing it every friday driving it to the track and putting the slicks on then driving home...

As long as you buy qualitly parts and do it right you wont have any problems, I love having a turbo just for going up hills and things like that 5th gear just keeps climbing, and you never have to down shift on the interstate just pass people with ease...

Yeah i'm wandering about overheating. 2 or 3 hour trips are not long. lol I'm talking about 8 hours or more of driving and only stopping for gas

As long as your engine is built right and tuned right there is no reason why it should run hot.My friends Prelude is turboed making 300hp still has Ac and ps and during the summer in Florida he can sit in a traffic jam with the ac on and have zero problems. As long as its tuned right you should be able to drive from Ohio to Florida and have no problems.

You can drive the car any where its all how you put it together
