jason. go for the b17 or stick with the ls. the b16 is not worth it at all in a da. i know some may disagree, but if you look around, a lot of people will say the same thing, not worth it. honestly, i had a b18b in mine with crower stage 1 cams, skunk intake manifold, and converted it to obd1 and it was fun. of course you can get a lil further and p&p the head, maybe stage 2 cams, a good intake (mine was rigged), a good head and exhaust and maybe a chip/tune and you'd have fun. plus you'll have plenty of torque still, unlike with a b16.

Hey andy, i liked my b16 in my old eg coupe that i had. was fun to drive. anywho if i can get my hands on that b17 i will most def go with that. b16 is my last resort. i might look into piecing together something if i can get away with it. my budget is 2500 so if i can slap together a b20 or just make my bottom end pretty and just go lsv. my motor has almost 300k on it so i will def have to change some **** on there lol besides the cooling issue the motor runs great so at least i know the block is in good shape. **** im sitting here typing this and now i might look for parts to put together a lsv lol fun thing is looking for parts haha gives me something to do im here at school, just got out of class and not im waiting for my wife to get out so i got over an hour to burn

 

b16's are only good because of the tranny. if you switch out your ls tranny for a b16 cable tranny, ***** quick

 

yeah, i would actually try to find a b17 tranny over a b16 so you have slight longer gears, but still a lot better than an ls. a friend of mine used to have a b20 block, ls head, 6 punk unsprung (over kill) and an xsi tranny in a stripped out ef hatch. he went 14.1 on street tires and had to launch in 2nd cuz if he launched in 1st all he did was spin every gear. granted the da's are heavier, but still gives you an idea

 

I run an Ls trans, but you really cant tell with 400whp

 

I wish it was but its not i cold as kaka here hahaha its was minus 1 or 2 degrees here a couple days ago

Hey Matt, i messed up on that post. Andy was saying its not worth it. I just erased the damn "quote" when i was resposting lol BUT i liked my b16 in my eg....so i would assume i would like the b16 in my da as well.... but on that note i was looking at prices on lsv i think thats the way im going to go with my build... since i have the block that will save me 600 bucks on a longblock....dont see shortblocks for sale to much. so i figure my car will just be down an extra week or 2 while i pull the motor out and stuff.. UNLESS i get that b17 under my budget with nothing major to change on it.

I've seen all types of death, decaps, gunshots, stabbings, burned beyond recognition, bludgeoned, and all types of other major traumas....ive never seen a dumb *** get sucked under a truck hes trying to rob. lol i have a classic story. we get a 911 call for a gunshot when we get there we see this guy sitting on the ground next to his bike covered in blood, my partner and i start to assess him and find out hes not shot at all. HE IS DRUNK AND HIGH and he decided to himself i dont want to ride my bike when i can jump this iron fence and take a short cut lol he ripped off his right calf muscle. tore it clean off. i couldnt help but to snicker after that call. one more, my partner and i was working a 96, on the last 48 or so of our shift was back to back for 19 hours straight. we finally get back to the station to sleep and we get a call for a attempted suicide. we get there and this ****ing dude says hes swallowed 45 PRENATAL vitamins lol i tell him thank u buddy u will pee orange for 2 weeks and we take him in on a 5150 hold lol

 

Darn, where are you looking. I know of several blocks in my area for sale ranging from $20 - $200.
Just look hard you can find one.

 

cuz b16's have no torque. and from what i've read, with the extra weight of the da and the b16 having no torque, you can barely tell a difference. have also had people tell me the same thing first hand. also heard/seen people say they wished they'd have never wasted their money on the swap.

im not trying to start anything with anyone, i just hate a b16. always have. always will. as for the b17 being all but the same, your right. but its the fact that its a b17 and its rare and was the first gsr. b16 is way too common. sorry, i just hate them. plain and simple. but if thats what you like, then thats cool. but i'll still to either an ls or a gsr.

Oh man I thought you guys were talking about trannys....B16/b17 swaps are not worth it for power, my friend had a b16 in his da and my stock ls would stay side by side with him...Except his had vtec and sounded cooler, with our weight its not worth it, gsr motors dont even really make our cars that much fast...just my .02

 

we were talking about both actually. so you were on topic with what you said about the tranny's. speaking of which, my friend beat the ever livin dog **** out of his cable gsr tranny and it lasted with no problems the whole time he had the car until the day he got rid of it.

but thanks for backin on me on the fact that a b16 swap isnt worth a **** in a da as far as power goes

hey wats up guys..havent been on a in while ive been busy with work...and soon school again....damn my clutch is going out anybody know anything on xtr or xtd clutches..im getting a stage 1 for now and i dnt really have the money to buy a stage 2 or 3..also i wanted to know when i change my clutch should i get my flywheel resurfaced or should i get a new flywheel cause im kinda figuring since the tranny is coming off why not do that as well ???? input

 

my friend used to have an xtd clutch, beat the **** out of it and had no problems. should be fine for you cuz not many people drive cars as hard as he does! lol. as for the flywheel, its never a bad idea to at least get it resurfaced, but if you have the money, why not get a light weight one if you can
