Default Zdyne, excellent support!

So I fried my ecu last week. The vtec wire came lose and touched a ground. Kept blowing several ECU fuses, couldn't pinpoint the problem for a bit until I disconnected that wire. I do solder all my wires, just not this wire lol

Reconnected everything, fixed the grounded wire, replaced the fuse and I was on my way. The car kept stumbling, hesitating. Check the vtec wire and it was turning on all the time even with the software configured to have it off.

So now I'm pretty much thinking of getting it either fixed or getting an AEM. I really didn't want to but if it came down to high repairs on the unit. I might as well. I call up Bill @ Zdyne, spoke to him for a bit, told him of what happened. Bill tells me to go ahead and fill out the order form with my info on it and send it out (ugh $$$). I ask him how much is it gonna cost and he says its FREE!, he tells me usually fixes ECU's that have been accidentally damaged for FREE. He even payed for 2 day shipping to have it shipped back to me.

Went on my lunch break, saw the package, put the ecu back, started her up, drop the beater off. Went to work and its running as good as new!

Cliff Notes: Fried ECU, expecting major repairs/replace ECU, Got it Fixed for Free, Excellent Support.

wow that sounds good.

I have some questions about the Zdyne unit.

Is it easy to tune on a dyno by your self or do you have to get someone who specializes in it?

How much does it cost compared to hondata?

Do you like it better than hondata?

I probably wouldn't switch to hondata if I had a chance too, just because of the fact that I can tune on the fly with the zdyne. Hit F2 and I'm done

Only drawback is, there is no datalogging, but the newer wideband's (techedge v2.0 etc.,) which I'm going to be switching pretty soon out there will take care of that

If you have a wideband, some grasp concept of a/f, timing, detonation, tuning is a piece of cake.

I like hearing these stories about good customer service! It seems like a lot of places involved in the aftermarket import parts lack a little in the customer service dept. It does make sense though if you consider the crowd these companies usually has to deal with, so it's nice to hear this.!

Bill is a great guy... he's always answered any questions that i had without complaining one bit. He is a bit tough to get on the phone, but its like anything, its usually because he is assisting someone else with their ECU, and giving them all the time they need... and he'll also give YOU all the time you need once he is done with the customer before you.

Good to hear you got good service like someone else said.

I emailed them weeks back with a quite a few questions I had about the ZDYNE unit and some other things...

Didn't hear a word back so I decided to switch to Ghettodyne...

As far as widebands go, there are some very affordable new units on the market with datalogging...the one I just purchased is on the first page here as I speak.

I use the Z dyne in my personel car and I put it in every boosted car I build . Including a Turbo with 680cc injectors. It is so easy to tune and get the drivablity 100%.
I would recomend the Z dyne SECU , and Bill is always ready to help.

thats where I'm stuck at right now...between converting to OBD1 and going Hondata or straight Zdyne SECU? my only concern with Zdyne is the lack of tuners who work with it(or at least I don't know of them on the Est coast)..I'd do it myself, but I'm slowly learning more on my own about ECU tuning, but not enought yet.

off the break what would be a more worthwhile decision OBD1 conversion/Hondata or straight to Zdyne?
