You won't regret it. Just go with Crome or Hondata. Both will teach you a whole lot.
I've seen a few cars using Crome and putting out over 450whp on a boosted ls-vtec's..gsr's.
As for bugs...everything has bugs...even the best of them.

Besides my 4-5 other issues with running chipped ECU's. The whole setup is really buggy at times, but i'm sure if it worked flawlessly it would be a sweet setup. I'm ready to argue the suckyness of the application so bring it..
-At times chrome does math as good as a handicaped monkey 1+1 = 4.34534
(now that is some crazy corrections)
-At times the .bins decide to change themselves
-At times chrome will come with some sweet *** "null value" errors while doing simple changes <~ shitty coding
-At times chromes .bins will save corrupted, which will cause a solid CEL
-Most of the time chromes GET/PUT features will not work, if it does work, most likley it will not verify
-At times the chrome .bins will be so fucked up they cause random CEL's to happen
Hey maybe i just got a bunk copy or something, but this is just my simple overview.. More to come this weekend after i play with chrome some more. Like mentioned before, if the applications was bug free and properly tested i'm sure it would be sweet. There is a reason hondata, neptune etc.. cost more.

I have experienced EVERY SINGLE ONE of those problems.
I don't know if it still does it, but Crome used to modify files you had opened even if no changes were made by the user or the file was saved.
It's not his laptop or his computer skills, it's not my laptop or computer skills, it's Crome being buggy software.
I'm not willing to trust my engines to some software that leaves me unsure of what is actually going into the chip.

A prime example of what's wrong with Crome is that features that supposedly "work" don't.
Try the gear based fuel correction.
Make a "huge" adjustment rich or lean for first gear, and see what happens... You'll notice if you watch a wideband, the changes you expect aren't happening. What is that adjustment changing? Is it "safe" for your motor? What else that supposedly "works" doesn't work?
I spent a lot on my motor- I'm not going to cheap out on something that will make sure it lasts.

gear based fuel correction works great for me. Do you have the latest version of crome/plugins?
I've never had any problems with crome, both free and pro. I used cromefree for a few days before deciding that datalogging/map trace directly in crome is definately worth $150. The moates products have worked very well for me. I'm using an ostrich, burn1, hondalog, brand new HP laptop, PLX M300. Cromepro's worked great for me on n/a and boosted apps.
Crome IMO is definately the best of the grassroots engine management.

Gear correction doesn't alter fuel, it alters ignition timing.
I have tuned a few cars including my own with Crome and it hasn't given me any problems. I don't know if the Pro version is worth it because I don't even use the auto tune, but it does support the development of a very well polished program, IMO.

If you think you're changing FUEL, but you are actually changing TIMING, what do you think might be the result of your incorrect information. This is something THAT CAN AND WILL BLOW UP YOUR ENGINE, because it does not work as described.

Hondata mislabels stuff and releases it all the time. The only difference with Crome it took maybe a month or two and the problem was discussed in an open forum and a solution was provided. Hondata for example will not fix a problem for many months or years and will also release half assed options that really don't work. Also, the per gear correction was written into the stock honda code. If you left it alone, it was doing what Honda intended. If people weren't smart enough to monitor their spark plugs and air fuel ratio while changing the gear correction, then is that really Crome's fault. I do agree its bad to have features mislabeled and not functioning correctly, but how much liability does a program provided to you for free hold? Really what most people want and need is a simple program that allows control of fuel and ignition tables. Crome provides that and more. Its a pretty decent deal for the buck. I just don't like the whole $150 to tune one car nonsense. I also don't think the way the money is distributed is fair in the least. But that doesn't take away from the fact all in all Crome is a pretty damn good option for the average schmoe on a budget.

Yeah, I see a problem...
The problem is you going out and not even testing the car to see if the changes worked right or not, just having blind faith. Just because a program costs a thousand dollars doesn't mean it's bug free either, and making changes without verifying on your car that they worked as described is pretty dumb. If you're in the middle of tuning and you make a change to the gear correction table and it starts pinging, you change it back. Simple. If you just assume it works perfectly without even testing, then you're not really tuning, are you?
And as for "CAN AND WILL BLOW UP YOUR ENGINE", I and many others used gear correction before determining it was ignition and not fuel being altered and guess what? We didn't blow up our engines.
If it doesn't work, then hey - don't use it! There are other options.

F uck, the feature is present in a FINAL version, and versions that cost money.
If i want to have to double check what every option in the program does and make sure it works properly, I'll ******* edit the hex by hand.

You aren't going to hear about the problems. You aren't touching the software. Your tuner is. Why do you think Neptune gets such positive feedback? Putting good software in the hands of good tuners will allow good results. Its a win, win, win situation. You will start hearing about different things once Neptune RTP is released to the public. Every piece of software/hardware in the world has bugs. Also user error is 99% of the problems people experience.
