ive used them and the pressure plates break.. the tabs break off causing loss of torque holding capability.. i would go with the F1 racing ebay clutch over XTD anyday... heres pics of what keeps happening to mine.. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2100552

I dont think ACT uses jdm "stages".

I've had good luck with ACT clutches.

my six puck sprung stage 3 xtd is holding up fine, but they gave me a sohc throw out bearing which really fuked up my trans (i guess i should have noticed), but yeah, i swapped it out for a better throw out bearing, so far so good, but i doubt i'd ever buy again from them.

With XTD it's a toss up if you'll get a clutch assembly that will hold together or not. All the ebay clutch kits I've seen are crap. They sell very cheap Chinese OE replacement pressure plates advertised as heavy duty (I've been in and around the clutch business for over 20 years and have seen alot of this). If you want to pay a cheap price possibly two or three times then buy ebay junk. Or you can spend a little more up front and get a quality product that will work as advertised and as it should.

I think you've got ACT confused with XTD. Ebay sells XTD clutches very cheap. You can get a stage 3 clutch for $180, compared with paying $400 or more for an ACT. I've read a few problems with the XTD clutches failing after several months of use. Plus, I just don't trust paying $180 for a stage 3 clutch. I'm still going by, you get what you pay for.

I got a stage 4. Haven't got to run it but I'm kinda worried. My friend put a stage 4 in his modified turbo toyota mr2 and it actually broke a puck. But it think part might of been to improper break in. Just for your info, if you get one, get the pressure plate balanced if you can. I had my whole motor balanced and the shop said it was rediculous how bad the pressure plate was. Here's a pic of how much they had to balance it...

Excuse my dirty kitchen! I'm a 19 yr old bachelor that spends all his money on parts instead of groceries lol

what its going in. sohc zc turbo probe i beam rods, vitaras, rebuild head, block gaurd, acl bearings, arp studs, being setup for 20 pounds of booooooooost

I've been debating on making a build forum on my motor. I've taken pics along the whole way. Would it be something you guys might be interested in seeing?

If your friends disc broke a puck it had nothing to do with improper break-in. The break-in period is for the friction material to seat to the friction surfaces. A broken puck is because crappy components were used.

I hate to say it, but that balance job looks pretty bad. They really should have added weights instead of drilling on the cover. I know it makes it heavier, but it's very little. Drilling the cover weakens it and it will deflect when the fingers are compressed.

On the positive side the motor looks great, I wish my wife would let me build a motor in the kitchen! Being a bachelor has it's benefits.

I have an XTD 6 puck sprung clutch. It slipped on the dyno before the break in period was done but after about 600 miles on it, it holds like a champ. I have about 2000 miles on it now with no complaints.

The drillings are very minimal indents, that's why there's so many of them, and the guy definately knows what he's doing. He built engines with over 1000 w.h.p., so mine was a walk in the park for him lol. But thanks for the input. The pressure plate is heavy as all hell, and if I remember correctly he told me he only lightened it about 15 grams. And he say it the reason it looks so bad is because it was so badly out of balance. But then again, this is my for motor build and I dunno right from wrongs. But to be honest, it's still a lot heavy than an o.e.m. any day, so I think the structural integrity wasn't affected too much.

Sorry for the double post. I will try to do a build thread this evening. I'm sure I'll get flamed a lot for my setup, but hey, it's all good . Ebay can be your best freind or your worst enemy. I just chose to try a different route and willing to be a guinea pig to see what can and can't work, I've got nothing but time, and aparently too much money lol

i wish i had of read the thing about balancing the pressure plate before installing it.. i put the XTD stage 2 kit with 8 pound flywheel in my car, and it vibrates like a bastard. i was not happy. thankfully i'm boosting this winter and changing the clutch again anyway. i'd stay away from the XTD clutches and just shell out the little extra cash for a competition or something along that line.

since were updating, i'll go ahead and give my update:

after about 50 passes at 310-330whp this clutch is NOT holding anymore, i have the stage 3 clutch and flywheel on my turbo b16. im making about 240-260tq.

all the passes where from a roll, NO launches, ok, maby like 5 times

all in all not a horrible clutch, but absolutely NOT for the turbo guys!

I have the XTD 6 puck. Absloutly not your daily driver clutch It used to chatter like crazy during the break in period. It still chatters but not like the first 500 miles. I have put 5000 miles on it so far with no problems other than the chatter.

I will def save up for a good brand next time.

xtd 6puck and flywheel on h22 with 7lbs of boost. Holds up fine and has never slipped. Only thing I dont like is that the clutch petal is not stiff and feels pretty stock.

i got the stage 3 6 puck with the flywheel,

the flywheel did not fit properly and the bearing was the wrong one, but the clutch worked fine, they took back the flywheel for a refund after some arguing. So i got a competition flywheel instead, and using the xtd stage 3 on my turbo teg, its still holding up good after 6 months, but havent used it at the track yet.
