Default WTF? psiton pins don't fit....

WTF is going on here? I just bought a piston/rod combo from a place called ARI wich consist of JE(lsvtec)pistons and eagle h-beam rods. The thing is, the pin that came with the pistons don't fit through the hole on the rod. I only tried one so far, is there supposed to be a certain piston for a certain rod?

HELP ME OUT GUYS!!!!!

TIA

When I ordered my agle ods from Endyn they had to
resize both the big and small ends of the rods! Larry
stated Eagle had sized them wrong. Take them to a
machine shop with your old LS rods and have them resize
them to the stock small end bore size! Good luck Paul!
Did you get your slicks and Lensos?

They are not supposed to slip right in! There are special tools for getting the pin into the rod!

But , If you don't have these, then you can do this!

There are a few different processes you can go about getting them in. One way that works is to heat up your oven at home to 175 degrees farenhiet. Put the pins in a plastic baggie and place them in the freezer for about 1-2 hours before you begin this process. Place the pistons on a cookie sheet with foil and place them in the oven once it gets to be 175 degrees. MAKE SURE YOU ARE WEARING SOME SORT OF GLOVES! Keep the pistons in the oven for about 20 minutes. Now you take out one of the pins from the freezer and one of the pistons from the oven. Coat the pin and the rod bushing with assembly lube. You should be able to fit the ring through the rod. You can use a 3/8" socket to get the pin adjusted. Now you insert the pin clips and you are set. You may have to do this several times so have some patience.

I hope this helps.

This will only apply if you have the correct size rod & piston combination!

thanks Terry and apexser....I hope they're the right piston rod combo, because they came in a combo from ARI. I'll let the machine shop take a look at it when I bring in the block this monday.

So teryy, you're saying that even the crank end had to be machined? What about bearing sizes then? Wouldn't it be off?
About the slicks and lensos....I'm ordering the slicks, but I might go with bogarts instead.

Hmm.. My JE/Crower combo fit perfectly without machining. The small end of the rod also has a gold (I'm assuming brass) coating inside which would be removed if any machining was done.

Also another guy here with a B18C with Endyn slugs and Eagle rods didn't need any machining either. Why do some need machining and some don't?

last I checked, Eagle rods have to be modified for full floating piston pins.

Paul, Yes even the big end had t be resized on mine!
Larry said when the B16a rods came in they were all
sized wrong so they had to resize them. On the B16a
rods they are sized to a Honda size 2. If you look
at the their website they charge about $100 higher for
the B16a rods I guess since they need to be resized.
Supposedly all the other rods were supposed to be good
though. Just have the machine shop size them and get the
corresponding bearing to the rod siz and the crank code
I used 2 sets of green and 2 sets of yellow on mine at least.
Why the Bogarts are you getting a good deal? APEX is samrt
but i was alittle apprehensive to that method if it don't fir
it don't fit. And extreme cold to extreme hot things start
cracking! When I received my rods and pisons they all fit
snug and had movement and all B series pitons should be
the same on the piston pin I would think. Could be wrong though.
Ive known plenty of people do LS/VTEC and no problems
on their combos Hell I even had Crower LS rods and
SRP pistons fro my old LS/VTEC set up and they fit fine.
Just have the rods resized and all should be fine.

175 degrees is no scorching, nor will your freezer at home be so cold that it takes care of the impurities in the metal!

But I do understand what you are saying. Like I said there ARE tools for placing the pins into the rod! But, if they are the wrong size on both ends, then you will need to get some machining done!

most aftermarket honda piston/rod setups use free floating wrist pins.
