Is it worth it? boost a d16?
I've been considering for a while boosting my d16 but another part of me tells me to wait for a engine swap. Do you guys think it is worth it to boost a d16 motor or should I hold out for the swap?
EJ1 wilcox. You cant really say that they dont make any power. Yeah they dont make as much power as b series do now, but look how much more parts are available for b series than d series. You can make power with them just not as much as a b series engine would.
Man if you want to boost it boost it. I've seen some that run really well for daily driver (running high 21s and low 13s) on stock internals and it last long.....like over a year and thats with the dudes beating on it daily. Its all in the tuning. So in my opinion if you want to do...do yo!!!

With the money i could have spent on a type r Swap i boosted my D series
With a Stock Type r swap i would probably run mid to high 14's..
To put a type R motor to run 12 sec all motor i woul have probably spent 5-6 k on top of the cost of the swap.
With my Boosted D series im almost touching 11 secs at half the cost it would have taken me to make a Type r motor run 12's... and my Sohc its not even a Vtec motor... ..You be the judge.

I was being sarcastic... LoL. I drive a d16 on 10 psi.

i agree with this guy...
i also own a turbo D... one thing to consider is the increased regular maintenance with a turbo honda. I say this because i have friends who i will never recomend boosting to b/c they can't stand getting dirty when needed. Where as a b series swap might be more friendly for the person who isn't so mechanically inclined.
a hunch of mine is that if you have to ask a Q like this one, you might opt for the second option.

It's all about YOUR goals.
In my opinion -
If you're going to go all out, and buy top of the line everything - do it to the motor you'll make the most power with.
But if you're just doing it to beat around a daily driver, who gives a ****. . . I'd turbo a bucket if I thought it would make my drive to work a little more entertaining.
But yeah, it's all in what YOU want man - if you want to potentially make 600+ horsepower someday in the future - don't sink your money into the D. But if you can live with < 400 - you'll b okay with the D (but you're still going to have to spend a lot of money to get it to that level)

**** a 300-350 whp goal on a d series would be right up there wouldnt it? still a light honda like that with that much power, would still be a kickass ride.
