Not anymore its not
To the OP: What's your budget and what do you want out of the setup? Stock internal D's will run just fine daily ~220-240whp with a good setup and tune...regardless of boost pressure. When you state your goals, be sure to omit that portion since its effectively meaningless

the rods in the d15b7 arn't very strong, i'd say thats your weakest point in stock form. So if you stay in the 200 - 220hp range, you should be alright. Just get iit tuned and don't beat the **** out of it, Should last.

220 whp on a stock d15b7? you would be doin something then! I highly doubt you could get those numbers in stock form

stock d15b7's boosted to 200hp have been done a million times! What part of this doesn't make sense to you?

It should last a while, even at 8-9psi (t3 turbo) with a y8 head. Just make sure the timing is set correctly to 16 degrees when using the y8 head. It helps if you get a great tune, run conservative timing, and the motor is healthy before hand.

Re: is it worth it to boost a d15b7.. (HiProfile)
i had a d15b7 with a t3/t4 50 trim on 8 lbs. it ran fine was laggy as hell but lasted just fine no problems. plus it cost like $800 total for the kit. granted i had put it together with used parts, but i would say it had about 180whp.
so it can be done and has been done a million times as said earlier.
