Default Was it worth it?

well I've been building a turbo kit now for abotu 2 1/2 months here and I want it to make over 450 on an h22 wich I dont think will be to difficult. but now that Im almost 4k deep in the project I've started to loose my excitement. This question is for all you 500club guys.. so....... was it worth it? all the money/time/headaches was it worth it?

I'm not making 500whp, but you have to ask yourself why you want that? It won't be useable on the street, so unless pulling-off some blazing times, with slicks, is in your blood, I don't see why you'd do it, if you have reservations...I do realize it is addictive, though.

2 and 1/2 months isn't $#!+. How about three+ years?

And I'm finally getting it to a point where I'm feeling satisfied...

I think it will be worth it still. Ive been at it for only 4-5 months though. I was debating between sleeving the block or not. I finally decided to sleeve it, b/c more than likely ill be rebuilding within the next year, and with it sleeved i can continue to use the same block.

If you sleeve/pistons/rods, and if you only put out say 300 whp daily, your car will last quite awhile, and you can bump it up to 450 whp on the weekends for the strip.

Damn, don't I know that feeling. It's been like 2 years for so far and I'm no where near done yet.

Yeah, if 2 months and 4k is making you think twice, it probably isn't worth it for you. Many, many guys on this board have spent 2+ years and spent 6k+ before wondering if it was worth it.

Anyhow, if you decide to continue, you should make sure you have a daily driver other than your turbo car.

I waited like a year and a half just to make well under 300hp and I'm pretty happy right now.

It's more than well worth it. Especially when you do things right the first time around. I have been turbocharged since 2000, and have had 0 problems with my car since then. I rebuilt the motor in the fall of 2001 for more power, and have never been more satisfied with anything in my life. If you cut corners, or incorrectly install or tune parts...you are obviously going to feel less satisfied at the end of the day. But there is nothing more pleasing, then doing things right...and getting the results you want. 11's from a street car with no compromises is what I have been enjoying for years now, and even with all the money I've invested, I would not do a single thing different.

just so you all know I make enough to be done with this project in 6 months. I still think its gonna be cool, I was just asking some of the people who are done if its worth it. Not the people that are half way done because you cannot answer my question. You have not been payed off yet. When I started the project I expected to spend around 17 give or take. after a build/newmotor&tranny/quife/tilton/etc...

Now lets ask once again. was the payoff worth it?

I've got a lot more that $4k into mine, probably more than twice or close to 3x that lol, and i just had 5 new packages arrive at my front door today lol. It never ends so don't think it will. If you're into your money you're in the wrong sport!

OT rules...I work at one of those 'fancy' high-tech companies that is so worried about budgets they are cutting their own throat (in other words, no OT).

Where is Eatonville, WA? Maybe I need to move

Oh, and to answer your question...

I question my sanity from time to time myself...usually what I do is get away from cars for awhile. I spend a lot more time on my mountain bike, I find other stuff to do on the weekend, etc. Usually after that whatever crazy idea has either went away or came back even stronger.

Not sure if that makes any sense, but it works for me...helps me see the big picture I guess.

Maybe you should ditch the project, but don't do anything on an impulse...

Not sure if I made my self clear, but I can say after waiting three plus years...it was worth it. I enjoyed the anticipation, almost as much as actually experiencing the final product.
