will bov work without intercooler
I just have charge pipe with a bov on intake side with a filter at the end. I dont hear the bov at all, is it because the intercooler is not hooked up? Also I dont have a downpipe or any exhaust on my turbo, does this affect performance? It looks like this

I wouldn't imagine that u would b able to hear the BOV with all that noise, and not having a DP or exhaust won't hurt performance other than the fact of extream engine bay heat.

Ur BOV poping open or not ur turbo is still going to spool down, if u hear compressor surge then I would b concerned.

I know the turbo is always going to spool down, but I was just saying I can hear the spool down over the noise so im sure I would of heard the bov over the noise but I dont

Re: will bov work without intercooler
lol my thoughts exactly
a BOV on the intake side of the turbocharger(between turbo and filter) will server no purpose. if it is rerouting from the pressure side back into the intake side thats fine but trying to release pressure from the intake side is retarded. you are doing it wrong.
the turbo will never build pressure unless it is sealed from the turbo to the engine so if the intercooler is just disconnected and the charge piping doesnt run directly from the turbo to the throttle body then you are doing it wrong.
yes no downpipe will affect performance, the turbocharger is sucking in engine exhaust, you are doing it wrong.
unless this is what you are going for:

Re: will bov work without intercooler
as mentioned above you're doing it wrong.
BOV goes on the charge piping inbetween the compressor outlet and the intake manifold... there should be no filter anywhere in that line... the filter should only be on the inlet side of the compressor housing.
Also you need a downpipe even if it's just long enough to get the gasses out of the engine bay...
Please don't run your engine until you're done building it.

Hahahaha..this is awesome. That's great how you blew your video camera all around with no downpipe.
You gotta learn somewhere, I certainly understand, but if your this far and this confused your moving TOO fast. Slow down, do some reading and be clear on what your doing or your going to waste a whole lot of money.
Get a downpipe on there asap
Find someone local that is reputable and can tune the car (references are a plus)
A bov relieves pressure trapped in the charge piping between the compressor side of the turbo and the throttle body. If you don't have a complete installed system...it ain't gonna work. Furthermore, you shouldn't be allowing the motor to see any pressure above atmospheric untuned. For that matter, if you have larger injectors installed (which appears to be the case by the carbon clouds), you really shouldn't be running it at all. This is the purpose for a basemap (see below).
Are you running this setup as it is right now on a chipped ecu with a basemap? If not, you should be. You live in Cali so you likely have 100 options within 100 miles to help you fix your mess and get you what you need.
You need to get many things straight. At this point you shouldn't be starting the car at all in my opinion. Your setup isn't even finished to the extent you should be revving and posting youtube videos. SLOW DOWN and get a grasp.

Re: will bov work without intercooler
Oh snap man, I read ur OP all wrong then.. If u have ur BOV on the intake side of the turbo it won't work. It does need to b between the throttle body and the turbo, u don't have to run an intercooler but not having one will limit u on psi and power. U can run ur charge pipe straight from the turbo to the TB with ur BOV in there somewhere. I must agree with the other ppl on here about tuning and starting and reving the engine too.

Re: will bov work without intercooler
The BOV will ALWAYS work as long as it's plumbed/placed/adjusted correctly...
All it does is vent pressure when the throttle is closed and vacuum is created in the intake manifold but there is still pressure in the charge pipes. It doesn't matter if you have a intercooler or not.
