Default The Wideband o2 do I need it?

Well I'm close to my the end of my build, the 18th I'm going to drop everything in. And I was curious if I need a wideband o2 sensor?

I have looked around and I hear two completely different stories.

1. I hear YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED ONE. You only don't need one if your going to do a street tune. You will get a much better tune if you use it.

2. and the second thing I hear is the tuner has one and if he doens't then you need to go to a different tuner. Some say only get one if your going to do a street tune.

Can someone shed some light on this area?

I hear some people buy it for the convience of it already being installed so the tuner doesn't have to install his own. But I'm not to worried about that.

no gauge is ABSOLUTELY necessary except for during tuning. its just a tool, like any other gauge to be able to monitor afr at all times. for most of thats critical so we will tell you to get one anyways.

something like bigger fuel injectors is absolutely necessary, having a wideband wont change how the car runs or anything but it could save your motor is the car goes lean, without it you have no way of knowing

always good to have, but not needed if theres a good tune on the car..

I had one in my car for street tuning, fowled the sensor on the dyno and just never replaced it.. No issues for 2 summers like that.. I wasnt worried about the tune

you cant properly tune a car without one....its up to you to use your own or the tuners. Its nice to be able to know whats going on with the cars A/F even after the tune is done. Its good info to have just like oil pressure and water temp. Its not absolutely neccesary though.

BTW I didnt have one on my last build, but I am installing one on my newest build, WAYYY more money involved.

The only gauge I need is a tachometer. Although I still use a speedo, water temp, fuel, and boost

unless you know how to properly read one and plan on monitoring your AFR's constantly then dont get one, at times, even if you do have one, a real tuner would still take yours out and put his on being as you never know if the one on the car is acurate or fouled out.

Alright well I'm not going to be happy if my tuner doesn't have one. Becuase if I could save $200 - $300 then sure as hell I will.

IMO a wideband in my car is cheap insurance. I like knowing what Its doing at all times. The wide band and boost gauge are necessities.
