Default Why do I suck with the AVC-R?

OK, external gate, 6-7 psi spring.

COM to Top port.

NC to vacuum source.

i have gear judge set up accordingly to this thread:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1037051

in 3rd and 4th i have + 20, +15 respectively.

what am i doing wrong?

I've had target boost set anywhere from .9-1.80 km/cm2, with duty anywhere from 50-75 and no matter what, i can't seem to break the 1 bar barrier, i'll make up to .8-.9 bar, but i can't go any higher.

target boost all the way to almost 2 bar, not even making 1 bar?? wtfzorz.

im trying to get about 15 psi. 20's on the funny gas, but its like i've maxed out the spring or something?

Sounds like boost leak.

I'd say play with the duty but sounds like you have. I would have to say, bypass the avcr and see if your wastegate spring holds steady psi.

You can only boost about double your spring's value with any boost controller... so yes, you maxxed out your spring. Get a 1bar.

Not true. We can make as much as your turbo will support no matter what spring you have.

yeah, u should be able to. just adjust the target boost and duty cycle until u reach your desired boost level.

i have been, if i got lower than 70% duty then i only make about .6-.7 bar... regardless of what i set target boost at ...i started at around .9 bar target, 60% duty... then tried 1 bar 60, 1.5 bar 60, 1.5 bar 70, 2 bar 60, 2 bar 70, 2 bar 75, 2 bar 80

nothing makes more than ~.8 bar

can someone w/ an avcr verify i have the COM and NC ports correct?

do you have the pressure source off of the wastegate "T"ing off of the COM port? another words it would be feeding boost to the top of the wastegate to help keep it closed.

i had an 8psi spring holding 26psi on my avcr last year on my sc44. this year i just used an 18psi spring and hit scramble boost in 4th gear to accheive 25psi.

here's how i have it

from what i got from the avcr install manual, with an external gate NC connects to a vac source, which i T'ed off the line going to the WG sideport.

COM goes to the top port which is just 1 un-T'ed line from com to top port. shrug.

Make sure the lines are the correct size. The bottom wastegate line is large than the upper wastegate line.

I ran a -6 from the IC piping to the bottom w/g port and -4 to everything else.

-6 for the lower w/g port and -4 for the solenoid from the IC piping

-4 from the solenoid to the top w/g port (Rusty HKS w/g will get bead blasted after the car runs)

haha i dunno, whomever i pissed off must've reset it...someone did anyway lol

all the lines are the same size..5/8 is it? i dunno... the correct size to fit the tial vac hose barbs on the WG.

i noticed i didnt zip tie the lines onto the solenoid, but i havent had a chance to drive it yet after i ziptied the lines down.

shrug.

dee did i have the ports right? U have COM to top port, N.C. to vacuum?

i ordered a new spring anyway for a 16psi combined rate... just in case

but WTF why is this happening

I don't think it is your spring. I think something else is wrong. Being able to boost to a certain level also plays part in your wastegate size, position and back pressure. This is more so an issue when trying to run low boost however, which is not your case. I am not near my car, but if you have not solved it, I will check my lines.

You have it correct.

COM to the top w/g port
NC to the vacuum source

The AVCR comes with a 8mm(w/g)-6mm(NC)-8mm(vacuum source) tee that is supposed to be used with the NC port and the lower w/g port. Instead of using the tee I gave the -4 for the NC it's own connection directly in front of the port for the -6 lower w/g source. I used all -4 on my original setup but I changed the lower w/g line to a -6 after fellow H-T member and boosthead IGY said he got better response this way.

Igy is not new to the boost or Honda scene. We both started pimpin' Hondas back in '94 and he previously owned an FD3S RX-7 that had a everything from a bridge ported 67-1 setup to a side ported twin TO4S setup . He's currently pimpin' a low budget boosted EG6.
