white smoke from 92 LS turboed hatch
Well I checked everything on this damn motor and no luck. Gotta a fully built B18A1 with custom turbo set up. Prob is, that the car blows white smoke all the time until the car gets hot and Im driving after awhile.. I know white means coolant/water... But I have no leaks, no blown head gasket, everything is sealed, and done up the proper way.... The only thing I can think of that i dont think is the prob is the fact I dont have a thermostate in that bad boy... No the car doesnt eat antifreeze... its just plain fustrating. Car idle normal, temp stays cool, oil stays level... Althought the car lags due to wrong computer, I tried all modelsfrom dual to single cam motors. any answers to this one is a great one...

Man, if you care about the motor in there even the least little bit put a thermostat in there. I'd hate to see a built motor die from overheating.

Re: white smoke from 92 LS turboed hatch (TurboInteg95)
hmmm, I thought the purpose of the thermostat was to regulate the flow of coolant through the engine, thus allowing it to effectivley cool the engine. If the coolant flows through too fast, as it would without a thermostat, the coolant can't extract the heat from the engine. Sure, the temp gauge reads nice and cool, as would be expected since the coolant isn't picking up any heat. You esentailly end up with low coolant temps, and an engine that's really overheating you just don't see it due to the coolant temps.

Re: white smoke from 92 LS turboed hatch (hybridrex)
Mine used to do the same thing untill I noticed that everytime I changed the PVC Valve and spark plugs, it wouldn't smoke for about 5 months and then it would...changed the PVC valve and spark plugs, no smoke and so and so on.......try it out, you never know....

Re: white smoke from 92 LS turboed hatch (supergreenSol)
I am using JE rings. I already pulled the motor apart and noticed they are well seated. Compression tests came perfect... I went and bought the thermostat blah blah blah and gonna putit in when time permits... I just need some other suggestions. I noticed since I became a member here that others have similar to the same probs as I have. Yet no real answers... The motor now has 800 miles and i have been trying to drive it as leniant as possible...
thanks for the replies

Re: white smoke from 92 LS turboed hatch (rawdigga)
I have the same problem with mine... Only seems to happen on COLD COLD days, like under 40 degrees F. If the weather is warm, and I drive it REALLY easy till it's warm, no smokie smokie. Mine is for SURE oil smoke... it stays in the air, doesn't dissipate like steam/white smoke/water smoke. It fills the back window of my hatch when I'm driving if it does smoke... pretty thick.
