location of EGT gauge
Anybody have any suggestion where to install the probe. For example, on the manifold itself or the downpipe? and many inches away. ANYBODY have PICTUREs!!!! that would be a great help!!!! and what' the best way to install it. I just got my gauge in today!!!
after the turbo i though you were getting a false reading because is goes through the turbo and cools it down.. from my expirence the best place is to put it in the 3rd cylinder pipe because of hondas firing order gives you a more acurate reading or in my drag manifold i had it right at the collector because it was so all the pipes were so close..... i would do a search i remember a thread that had some more info on this subject....

You need to have it within 2" from the head on the #3 cyl. any farther than
that and your readings are off.

would there be any problem installing it on the #4 runner?

I was wondering the same thing, since it's 1-3-4-2...maybe it's because it's an inner cylinder and inside the firing order, as well?...
Ok I am one of those people with the probe on the downpipe. How much will the temperature be off by. Right now I read 1150F at 75mph cruising. Is it off by like 100F or more?

Also, exhaust gas cools at an high rate the farther it travels.
So having the probe past the turbo(read big heat sink) could easily
put your numbers off quite a bit.
With the sensor on the DP, would you still be able to see a rapid increase in temp, letting you know something is wrong? Or is the turbo too big of a heat sink and would absorb all the heat of detonation and your gauge would read normal? I'm just worried about the sensor breaking off and flying into the turbo.
Temps are gonna rise quickly whenever you step on the gas.
You also arent gonna see detonation on an EGT, if you are relying on that
for knock monitoring then you are just asking for it. The EGT probe
is very mallable and if it breaks off then you probably have worse problems than
losing a turbo.

i dont think it will break off...im looking at my and the probe looks very strong. but he does bring up a good point- if for some weird reason it does, the turbo will take a hit.
