where do you guys go and buy your octane boosters?

do places like strauss and pep boys sell them? looking to get a bottle for tonight.

Most auto parts stores and places like Wal-mart sell octane booster stuff. Most of the stuff you buy at the store is not all that effective, but it could not hurt.

Yeah the NOS racing (not street) stuff is good, but it is expensive!

 

even Ralphs has octane boosters

 

i rather just buy race gas at 76. but octance boosters are cool. you can find em at any automotive store or department.

 

100 octane! cheaper too compared to the octane boost I can get 100 octane for 5 bucks a gallon

 

one of the few good things about the uk is our pump gas is 95 or 98 octane

its also 80 pence per litre

 

I just dumped a half-gallon of Xylene (117 octane solvent) into a half tank of gas, which should yield a net octane of around 95; my engine loved me for it. 5th gear, wide open even with the poopgate spiking up to like 9psi, and not a hint of activity from the J&S. Make friends with your local paint supply store and find some 5-gallon cans of xylene and you're in good shape.

 

Was your J&S showing activity before the xylene?

 

It would pop up one or two lights periodically when I was passing or some other prolonged boosting.

 

I think I will still try the Toluene... I think Xylene is marginally more toxic and a little more corrosive than toluene.

 

Diluted to 10% it's probably not much of an issue but if it makes you feel better, go for it. I went Xylene because it's 3 octane higher and each quart cost about $0.30 less, so it was like $3.09 instead of $3.39 or something. I still need to find someplace that sells in larger than quart quantities tho.

 

has anyone tried the VP race gas octane booster? they sell it at autozone. i used their fuel injection system cleaner but never tried their octane booster.

 

does anyone know where to get actual race gas in jersey?
