Default When does stock b16 head become a restriction??

I have a 587 hp b16 84.5mm with a gt35r 1.06 AR and at 30 psi. ITR cams. Boost starts to drop if we boost more than 30psi and I was woundering maybe the stock head becomes the restriction in the system.. The torque falls in the higher rpm and I think maybe the camgears needs adjustment. That way we can rev it moore too. I was hoping for a little more power than I got..

well porting the head should give you some more power up top, but the b16 head is supposed to flow better than a stock gsr. it could also depend on your gt35 specs because you might have too much backpressure beyond 30psi. how much are you trying to make?

I realy did´t hope fot that much more.. Braking the 600 mark maybe..
This is on a 1.06 AR housing also..

I plan to messure the backpressure and adjusting the camgears later on If I find the energy to put it back on the engine dyno..

this is an engine dyno, not a chassis?

What wastegate and spring? Looks like exhaust backpressure might be pushing the wastegate open up top, causing the boost to fall.

I have always heard GSR heads flow better then B16 stock, can anyone verify?

i will promise you that stock for stock a b16 head will out flow a gsr head port for port. But.... a lot of builders who know they are going to port their heads will start with the b18c head because it actually has a quench area, but stock for stock the b16 is better.

And to answer the original question, i have seen stock ports put over 650 down so i would say that you have either maxed out the turbo or maybe the exhaust.

That AR is huge for that turbo on your setup! I highly doubt you have too much back-pressure with that. I would think the B16 might have a hard time keeping that turbo spinning. As Tony said, what WG spring do you have in there. Also what are you cams set at? 0-0?

Honestly if it were me, I would ditch that exhaust housing and go with a .82 a/r. Many people have made ~650 with it.

actually you wrong...... here is a flow test done for a B16 vs a B18C stock for stock

Basically they have minor differences as far as flow goes..... down low the GSR has a slight bit better flow and up towards the top the B16 has a slight better flow...

you're gona have a hard time maintaining more than 30lbs of boost w/the 35r.. thats a decent size turbo, but its not huge. hell gt40's dont like much more than 35ish lbs of boost.

what cams do you have in there?? if you havent just try some CTR or ITR cams, they are much much better than b16 cams.

edit... never mind, i just reread and you already have ITR cams. send the head to brad z at RLZ and you'll make more power

It is a tial 46mm WG but I don´t remember the spring rate we went with..

Yes it was on an engine dyno and I was so nervous when we did the pulls that my head went into trauma mode and went elsewere so I totaly relayed on the tuner guys.. These guys are more into volvos and this was there first honda engine.. Afterwards when I think about everything I have questions popping up and woundering if we could have made something better.and if there experiense realy works on Honda engines too.

We hade some trouble with leaking sleeves.. etc
I suggested to my tuners that I had 1600cc injectors so we can run e85 but my tuners thought that gas is more reliable wih gas so we had a couple of switches in the fuel systems before they made up there mind. We had a few things that was time consuming.. We broke a turbo also and it takes time to get a new one from US to Sweden and there were other engines waiting for dyno time.. When we made 587 my tuner desided that was enough and there wasn´t time for any adjusting of the camgears or other trouble shoting.. That means that the camgears is set at 0 and 0

I have a 0.82 AR housing too but I wanted the larger housing for most power for the strip.. If I feel that I want more streetability or in any other way want a smaller housing I just switch and tune it..

We had trouble to get the boost controll to work so we went with a manual one but I don´t remember how the tuner guys hooked it up..

My best bet is just like Tony1 said that maybe the WG opens due to back pressure. I also belive it should be big gains in adjusting the camgears and rev to like 10500 11000 rpm.

I've been told the same by my tuner who has actually taken the time to flow a B16, GS-R, and ITR head.
