Default When assembling a turbo do you....(Help)

Use any kind of sealant or gasket on the intake side of the turbo that mounts to the backing plate?

My mazda will not build more than 2 lbs of boost, on a freshly rebuilt turbo. At first i thought it was the Intercooler piping.I found some leaks and fixed them and then pressure tested it to 15 lbs, held fine.

Car will idle and drive beautifuly out of boost, it just will not build boost.

Checked to see if the internal wastegate was stuck open, it wasnt, it was sealed nice and tight. Of course i did this with the car off, some jackass at my local parts store suggested i remove the DP and start the car to see if for some reason it opens when the car was idleing.....

Any ideas? Help?

shouldn't have to remove the downpipe, just watch your actuator after you start your car. It is possible that your wastegate is messing up. I have a gasket on mine, if you left it out, i'd think you'd still make plenty of boost though. so i dunno.

I know its building boost ( i can hear the turbo) but its leaking somewhere and i cant ******* find out where.

Now if it was a leak in the intake manifold, On a MAF sensored car it would idle like **** right?

TTT.
Would it be a good idea to remove the downpipe again and then pressureize the wastegate with a foot pump to see if it opens early?

the compressor should have a big "O" ring to seal against. At least my garrett turbo does.

i made a gasket out of the do it yourself gasket you can get from local parts store, napa for sure. Its big, so its easy to cut out with scissors.

After consulting with a few other people they suggested tying the wastegate closed which in the end I did. STILL will not build boost. Im going to end up taking off the upper intake plenum to see if maybe its leaking somewhere in there.

You have clamps on all of your couplings right? Hows your blow off vavle, is it stuck open?

Yes i have clamps on all of the couplers, that was the first thing i checked, also checked the bov by removing it. Still nothing, im convinced that it is a leak somewhere in the intake manifold, im going to re route my boost gauge so that it reads off the port on the turbo, so i can see if the turbo is creating boost, if not ill add that seal i was talking about earlier.

good news: found the leak, 10 psi felt good, for the 1 pull.
BAd news:turbo now eats oil. (expletive)
