I'm about to be putting my turbo built engine back into my car and it's hot as hell over here in Vegas.. I'm hoping to run in NHRA but was wondering what weight oil I should use because of the extreme heat.. it's been average of 115-118 over here.. I usually run 10w-30 but am thinking about running a thicker viscosity because of the heat.. What do you big time racers recommend? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Actually I already saw that one but it's just everyone posting what they use. I'm looking more for why they use it? Oh and this is a freshly built engine so i've still got to break it in as well... TIA

What's so good about Royal Purple? I hear of people using it but don't understand... Does it have additives in it? Because the instructions for my rings said to not use any type of additives just yet... I've got Ross Pistons and rings... Oh and how hot is hot as hell? Just out of curiosity... Thanks again!

I run the cheapest oil I can find (usually SuperTech at Wal-Mart, or Shell at the Checker's down the street) and swap it out every 1,500 to 2,000 miles.
I've done this on my old SOHC for three years, my old GSR motor for a year, and now my ITR motor for the last 16 miles and counting.

Well you probably should have mentioned that the motor is still in the break-in period.
I don't think anyone caught that.

I wasn't sure if that would matter or not.. Does it?

YES! You should use NON-SYNTHETIC, detergent oil for at least the first 2 or 3 changes. I start the car and let it run for a few moments then change the oil again right away. You should search for break in procedures to get more info on this. This has all been covered many times.
After that with your super hot *** weather I would run 15w40 but only when its above 100 out and you are tracking the car.
