What tranny should I use on a B16A2 turbo in a 93 EG hatch! LS or GSR????

GS-R with LS FD. or just GSR

 

OF COURSE THE LS, IT HAS LONGER GEARS,IF YOU PUT THE LS TRANNY IN YOUR THIRD GEAR CAN PULL UP TO 110 OR SO,

LS ALL THE WAY

 

Any more opinions on this!?!?! It is mainly for quarter mile.

Finally a helpful answer. How about an LSD, helpful or only for cornering?

 

yeah the gsr tranny is shorter gears but a little stronger than the ls. I just snaped 3rd on my ls tranny. 3rd gear always goes on ls tranny if you turbo no matter what.

I gotta disagree with the above post regarding under 15psi and over 15psi. First off you gotta see what application you are using. If its for full drag or street?

If all drag then ask this question to yourself. What boost pressure are you gonna be using?

If its over 15 then ask this question to yourself. What slick size combo are you going to tbe utilizing?

IF its greater than 26inch slicks then use the b16a/gsr tranny
under 26 go with the ls tranny


The slick size combo is also very key inchoosing which tranny to go with. A LS and 26inch tires it not a good combo.

 

Hi Viren, What are your thought about having 500hp TypeR and still having the TypeR tranny. I was talking to alot of people and they all tell me to go with ls tranny. The car is 90% a street warrior, not too much track. Do u think this tranny is still good for that much power??

 

I would stick with the typer R tranny. I would convert the stock LSD t osoemthing else though like a quaife or somethign. The STOCK TYPE R LSD is good to around 450hp but then it starts to flake out.

Myles from revhard put a brand new one in the civic and the diff gave up when he was running over 550hp so be careful.

 

I plan on boosting it moderately at 9-10 lbs! I plan on just using a complete GSR tranny. I have a LS fifth gear. Would it be worth my while to utilize the fifth gear in a GSR tranny? Also, can I put a Type R LSD in my GSR tranny??

how strong is actually standard b16a/b18c/ls gearbox actually is ? im scared to launch my car hard with the turbo
is there anyway to make them stronger ???
