What is this **** on my sleeves?
So i went to take a quick look at my b17 block which is soon to be bore/honed for my new build. I saw this crap on the cylinder walls, i cant tell if they are tiny crack or just crap buildup. The block has been sitting for a while so there is slight oxidation on the cyl walls, i couldnt remove the gunk with soap and water or a degreaser so i lightly sanded it to see if i could get it to go away, although this diminished its appearance im not sure if its completely gone. So yeah, the scartches u see on the walls are from the sanding, i only did it very lightly...
What do you think this is [area on the right of pic1 is where i sanded]:

yeah thats the thing, you it looks like a crack but here is a pic of the same "crack" from the oilpan, after i scratched my nail thru it, its like a gunky buildup... But is there a crack under it? also included a few more pics..
The buildup looks like its in the shape of the bottom of a piston, ya kno?
whaddya think? Im just concerned becuase i want to kno what this is before i take this block to the machine shop for a bore/hone...

Looks like a crack to me to... Have the block soaked before they hone it and check that out. If she's not cracked I wouldn't worry about the **** on the red **** on the sleeves, it's gonna come off anyways once they bore and deck it.

other opinions? definitely gonna have it soaked and checked by the machinist before they bore and hone it, i mean, i paid for a pristine block+sleeves, so if it is cracked i need to take it back to the seller, but im not gonna make any moves til i know for sure....

ill try some wd40 tomorro, see if i can get some better pics after i try
the raised area has the consistency of gunky oil and is at the very bottom of the stroke, almost like its just builtup oil from the bottom of the stroke or something. Cause the contour of the line follows the profile-view of a piston perfectly...

I'd honestly just take it to a shop and have them soak it. lol Save you the effort. Then through some iodine up and down the cylinders, wash it off and if there's any cracks you'll see em for sure.
