What Shall I do...
I currently have a 99 EX. Basically stock (justGreddy Evo exhaust). I originally wanted to go NA but recently changed my mind to FI. The problem is this. The car has 64k miles, is driven daily, currently has a bad 3rd gear syncro and I have $3000 to spend.
What Shall I do? I'm tempted to do a custom style turbo kit and take the car to a tranny shop but I don't really feel comfortable doing that much work to my car. I don't really have the right tools either. Anywho, suggest away
Also, about how much would a shop charge to install something basic like the Greddy kit? I'm not looking for huge power, maybe 180whp or so.

I say hold onto your $3,000 and learn as much as you can until you feel comofrtable doing the work. By that time you will probably have met enough people on here who would be willing to help you out with tools and their time.

well i say go greddy kit. you can install it your self with h-t help. really not all that dificult. that will be great for the numbers your looking for. get the tranny fixed/replaced. and go from there. that should well be within your 3000 spendage
i would agree with ^ but you know how hard it is to leave monay alone. when you might need it youl pinch here and there and b4 you know it you got 1500 left. dont take for ever but take time to think about what ya really wanna do and what the goals are for your car. good luck

Most shops will try to rip you off and charge you $500-$1000 for installation
Just goto sears and buy the small tool set, $50 or so. That's all you really need.

Heh, I've been reading HT for 7 months about turbos. I even looked at several complete install guides from step to step. I can't really "learn" that much more about the install of it until I actually get some hands on experience. I figured a shop would try and reem me for it. I was hoping maybe they would play nice and only ask like $250

Sounds like it's time to find someone with some tools and get to it.

You'll always find guys like these on H-T.
Yea it's difficult to let money sit. That's why I buy parts as I make the money and just let the parts sit. It's hard to spend parts.

That's a very nice offer and I'll keep it in mind if and when I finally do make a decision I may attempt it myself and just take my time and ask a lot of questions. I want to do it myself to prove I can yet I don't for fear of costing myself $$ out the ***.

The one part I can't ever manage to figure out is how exactly boost is controlled. Anyone care to explain to me how it can be controlled electronically and with a spring? The spring works off the waste gate.. or something like that right?
Edit: And knowing me I would somehow manage to assemble it and have it set at like 14psi for the first startup
