Default What rods to use?

So I was planning on using some Eagle Hbeam rods for my d16 turbo build. But I see that the block needs to be notched. Are there any forged rods that I can use that I wont have to modify anything to use? If they can handle 400hp that would be plenty. This is my dd just want it to push like 250-300 so I can have a little fun with it.

You could use some shot peened LS rods that should hold up to your HP goal. With pretty much any H or I beam rod for the d15/d16 (FJ, eagle, bisimoto, etc) you will need to notch the block and the girdle.

Notching really isnt tough at all man, just mark out the portions that need to be notched and slowly take away the material with a grinder. Not a big deal at all!

You would also need to get the LS rods shaved to fit the d16 crank and get a correctly sized wrist pin since the pin diameter on the LS rods is 2mm (i think) larger than the d16 rods.

Nah, I'm running them in my d16 and I had to notch them. The point is theyre a little longer than standard length rods so, when paired with vitara pistons, the piston sits level with the top of the deck. With standard length rods the vitaras sit a little under the deck causing very low compression.

Not to say you cant run a vitara on a stock length rod but thats a discussion for another thread

It's really not hard, a little bit of time with a dremel and a nice aluminum bit and it will fit. Just take your time, it's not a precise kind of thing. Smooth out all of your edges and test fit everything to make sure it all fits before you bolt it together permanently. Really easy.

Also my friend who would be doing the work is leary that it will cause issues with the block. Doesnt think its right to be grinding in there.

Head on over to d-series.org. Pretty much everyone who is running a d15/d16 with forged rods has to notch the block and/or girdle.
