Default What kind of tuning is needed when adding a turbo kit besides the air/fuel.

ok here is my future setup. building basic bottom end. f-max turbo kit. running at 10psi only. that's it

people say proper tuning is the only way for your motor to survive. what exactly is included in the "proper tuning?" I know for sure you have to tune your air/fuel. The cam and cam gear are stock so messing with the timing isn't needed. what else is there?

also does the f-max kit fuel computer adjust the air/fuel accordingly?

and do i need a new head gasket or keep the stock. if so what brand to directly replace the stock without disturbing the compression?

thanks

The most critical portion of tuning is making sure that for each rpm and each engine load situation, you have a proper fuel/timing setup. This is why the ultimate tuning is done with a standalone capable of nearly infinite adjustment throughout the rev range and capable of tuning as per boost as opposed to gadgets like V-AFC's and such which do so by rpms/TPS instead of boost loads. If you're head is stock, there's no need to bother the cam timing any since you haven't changed anything there. With a "basically" built bottom (rods/pistons) you should have no problem at 10psi so long as the tuning is done well enough to fuel those 10psi. Depending on how many miles you've got there, you might wanna consider going ahead and changing you head gasket just as a precaution (use an OEM gasket unless you want to alter compression), along with your water pump and timing belt if not already done, again this is all dependent on your milleage.
