honing a block is preparation used when you install your pistons. What a honda needs is a good cross hatch pattern hone. All honing does its clean the cylinder walls so your rings would seat properly. It take any irrgularites out its very minor thing.

The cross-hatch pattern left by honing also helps keep oil on the cylinder walls for good lubrication.

yes you need a special machine to do this. take it to a machine shop if you have to hone it.

I thought you just need a honer you can by at stores like sears for under $20 and a drill? But having a professional do it is not so bad either.

I was reading a post on installing piston/rods while the engine is in the car, but I can't imagine you can have the cylinders honed while it's in the car can you?

i've heard you can hone out the block while it's in your car, but i can't imagine the trouble it would be. I would probably have a shop do it unless you are really trying to save money.

doesn't honing it bore it out slightly??...if so, wouldn't honing it by yourself run the risk of over-boring it?

Yes, If you do the honing yourself and you don't know what you are doing you may end up boring out the sleeve a little bit. And yes you can hone a block while it's in the car. Some people bring it to a machine shop while some people hand hone. I WOULD NOT recommend you honing your own block.
