Search for threads on the AFC hack and saturated/unsaturated injectors.

Stupid thread

Heh I've come to the conclusion that any question that anyone could possibly ask about any aspect of Honda's has allready been answered and is in the archives

There are two types of injectors, with different resistances. If you install the lower resistance injectors in a car that was designed for high resistance, you need to add a resistor box so that the total resistance is the same.

There is more tech behind it, but that is the basics.

depending on what you are needing...Radio Shack....8 bucks gets you 4 10watt 10ohm resistors...wire inline with the yellow/black on a Honda and you are good to go...www.homemadeturbo.com

Actually, you don't hear enough about how a resistor box is a sleazy trick so that Honda could run the cheap saturated injector drivers with the cheap peak and hold injectors. It's one of thgose things that "works," but with how high tone **** some ppl are, I'm surprised so many people run the setup.

Um, we stole it from the DSM guys Let's blame them.

Keep in mind that the low resistance injectors do have a purpose; they have less coils, so the have a faster responce time for "performance applications."

Yes, but having high Z injector drivers incapable of supporting the current flow a low Z injector draws control that low Z injector by a resistor box hack makes for anything except a "performance application."

Toss an O-scope onto a resistor box/lowZ equipped vehicle and compare the pattern to a setup running matched driver/injector combo. If you have a dual trace scope, most are, you can install a KS onto your fuel rail and also plot where the injector fires along with where the ECU tries to fire it.

Hey, since we're talking Hondas + injectors, you might find this little tidbit I picked up from an EMS tuenar interesting. Bigger injectors flow more fuel in a shorter time, which due to the stock Honda ECU injector firing calibrations has the injector firing prematurely in big injector setups. Anyone who has played with a full standalone knows what an injector advance table is, and anybody with a good imagination and understanding of cars can figure out what I'm saying. This is especially noticeable at idle/as an idle quality complaint. Injector fires, hits the back of the valve, and then the valve opens. We used to think it was solely due to the Honda ECU being programmed to not support an injector fire time of less than 1.08 ms, but... the trick is to retard the distributor mechanically while adding timing to your ignition tables so that ignition timing is still the same from the engine's point of view until idle problems smooth out.

Good information J.Davis!

Another thing that bothers me about running larger injectors on Honda ECU's is the apparent lack of dead time compensation.

You're just jealous because when I swap cams, my car doesn't lean out.

I'm not big into cam swaps. What I am jealous of is the way a DSM gets an insane AWD holeshot, you know, between transmission replacements.

Yup, that was me. That's what happens when you run 22 psi without tightening the oil filter down, and forgetting to safety wire it.

I call it my "special traction sauce."
