Default what has been your favorite turbo setup

sorry if this lacks a little bit of tech but I think its something important that we often times forget about

Im interested in hearing what your favorite turbo setup was and why you liked it; Ill post two of mine

stock d16z6
ebay kit, cast iron mani
dsm450's
1 bar w.g. spring
approx 235-240whp street tuned by a buddy

why I liked it;
cheap
my first honda
just enough power to beat alot of guys that would just spin with all their power
its a sohc so every one would under estimate it
13.50's on old kuhmo street tires @ 108mph in full weght coupe

other setup

current
stock b18a1 turbo
ebay cast iron mani
ebay turbo, oil lines, w.g. ..etc
home made 3" d.p.
s300 with boost by gear
dsm 450's
314whp/280tq

why I liked it;
stock ls
mad torque
cheap motor to replace
built 100% by me.

I have a few friends with 450+whp setups and they all seem to hate them due to one thing or another. I tried to build a somewhat big setup for my self but ended up being dissapointed in the end.

post back with your thoughts or setups

my other setups
1. d16z6 turbo in 93 civic ex (loved it)
2. b16a in 94 ex 8lbs of boost, ram horn, 3" dp 288whp 13.1 @114mph torque less. hooked every gear but boost didn't come in till 5500 and full boost at 6k (to4b 1.15ar hot side)
3. b16 cracked a ring land so I built a ls/vtec, eagle rods, wiseco pistons 750's 60-1. made 307/220 on 17lbs. prob due to crappily built motor (my bad first time)
4. stock ls-t first ls motor spun rod bearing on 3rd day (unknown miles, low on oil?) love the power band, hooks really good with boost by gear and its a budget setup and everything I do is budget.

2 favorites i guess.

1st fav. stock ls motor like 50k miles.
ramhorn mani, with a stock exhaust and e cutout
57 trim with .48 exhaust on 10 psi.

it was by far the smoothest setup i ever had. it hit up full boost about 3200 and pulled very smooth to 7200. boost came on smooth and it didnt really break traction and response was always there. very fun to daily drive.





2nd favorite
built and sleeved 2.0 liter jdm gsr
type r head with edelbrock manifold
half ram manifold 3" exhaust
t3 60-1.

this setup made around 430 on high boost, but made 351 and 240 on about 12 psi. 99% of the time id run it on the 12 psi/351hp level. it did have some traction issues in 2nd and a little in 3rd even with the drag radials. at this hp it rolled on everything i raced, including a few high 400hp cars(they were heavier that me). this setup didnt really get moving until like 5500 so it was nice to daily drive because i could keep the rpms down and it was like a stock car that got like 33 mpg


heres the list of all the setups ive had that these 2 choices came out of.
1-stock d16z6 - t3 50 trim 7 psi
2-stock ls motor w/215k miles, 57 trim .63 exhaust and gsr tranny 10-11 psi
3-piston and rod lsvtec, 57 trim .63 exhaust - 10 psi (spiked to 15psi while rolling out on an s4 and maxxed injectors blowing a sleeve)
4-81mm sleeved lsvtec, 57 trim . 63 exhaust (finally blew oil seals) replaced with 60-1 .63. car made 320hp on 14 psi with bent valves and 120 psi compression in #3 cyl. drove it to consistant 12.5's and close to 13k miles like this.
5-stock ls, 57 trim .48 exhaust and then later on same motor but with a 60-1 .63 exhaust. that turbo was too laggy for that setup and ls tranny. didnt hit 10 psi till around 5000 and at 4000 only had like 3 psi.
6-84mm lsvtec, 60-1 .63 exhaust gsr head. made 415hp at jeff evans on 17 psi
7-84mm jdm gsr, built block and head, itr cams, 60-1 .63 exhaust. this is the aformentioned motor, made about 430 on 18 psi.
8-d16z6 vitara and eagle setup, mitsubishi tdo5, ramhorn. made 191 on 8 psi, went 13.8's @104 with 14 to 15 psi, had it up to as much as 18 psi running like a champ. (buy this whole setup tranny, turbo and all for 2000 bucks <-- shameless plug lol)

i have used 2, a drag gen 3, and full race stage 3 pro street. and i like them equally, yes i said it.

the drag i had more fun whoring people with, and the full race kit i have gone the fastest with.

drag kit was basic t04b
84mm b16 gsr cams, stock intake, 3" exh made around 350, had great fun with it.

then put the t3t67ho full race kit on that engine, made 540 with maz cams.
put that kit on my current gsr, and made over 700 with it.

This is easy...i've had to fully built setups before the one that is my fav but mine is...

My fully built ls
golden eagle sleeved 84mm
Wiseco/Eagles
Type r replica intake
sfp race manifold with Garrett t3/t4 60 trim
tuned by Tim Switzer on pump gas at 18psi made 373whp 290wtq
Setup lasted my nearly 2 years with 0 problems!!!
My new two setups were ls/vtec setups that have been an absolute disaster...
