What is the fastest non-VTEC 1.8 or 2.0 Turbo Honda?
Just like the topic says. What is the fastest non-VTEC B-series? I am building a 2.0 for turbo and would like to go non-VTEC for a change. I was wondering if my HP goal is with in range with a non-vtech head. Or if it just a waste of time. If the goal is too lofty, I guess I'll have to go VTEC.

I assume your post hasn't been replied to because your questions are very vague. If your ultimate goal is a fast daily driver, it really doesn't matter whether you go VTEC or not. Do some research, slap the turbo on, and have a good time.

Im aiming for 10's in my built LS.
Darton, Crower, JE, Full-Race, Precision (big), PWR, lots of head work, EMS, Venom, etc.
I should be at 450-5?? horsepower.

To get those numbers right over 500 to 550hp is what you should be lookin for. If you can get 400, 500 shouldnt be a problem. Its basically the same build up except the size of the turbo and the amount of boost. I made 509 and went 10.89 in full race trim back in the day. 10.60s to 40s arent completely out of the question and 9s are pretty tough unless you get the horsepower out of it. Good luck.

Thanks guys. What I am after is 500-550hp 350-400ft. lbs. The car will be street driven. Here is the setup :Golden Eagle sleaves will be used,84mm JE pistons, Eagle rods, Z10 block girdle, ported and polished head, Crower valvetran, t-4 60-1, Tial 46mm, Skyline core, 4-850cc injectors, and obviously a standalone. I think a disgustingly quick non-vtec would be cool as ****, What do you think?

How effective is porting the b18b head? I have heard ported and polished b18b heads still don't flow all that well. I've got a fat power fall off in my top end and am considering getting my head ported and polished to help... Did you guys see decent topend gains at moderate boost(~10lbs)?

Stock LS top-end is decent enough, but not spectacular. It's mostly due to the LS cams. swap those out with some mid-level N/A cams or a turbo specific grnd and you'll be having some hella top-end. I shift at 8000 RPM on my setup, my cams i'm told make power above 8500. The only thing that limits the LS top-end is the actual design of the rocker arm assemblies. Most poeple don't trust them above 8500.

I take my LS to 8500 plus daily. Probably goto 9500 when I get the EMS tuned.
LS heads dont really flow too well. p&p does wonders. I remember when I was n/a and did a quick port job on the exhaust side and picked up a good amount of topend.
Great thing, like Chris said is the torque curve on nonvtec motors are awesome.
Im not a fan of the retainers, i kept stock steel ones for brut strength and virtually no wear. Springs is really all you need to make an LS rev.

and what's the hype with VTEC anyway if you only use the bigger lobe?
Say the RPMs drop to 5k even....per shift. So VTEC is never dropped out of. So why do you need two lobes.
Take the advice about the mild NA cams
