thats how you tune your setup, and have the right fuel and timing maps, among other things

try looking at this to understand...hondata is in the category of standalone.

Since your adding power to the motor, you cant use the original settings in the ecu, so you HAVE to get engine managment to tune everything appropriately. Hondata is one of the programs that people use to tune their cars when they upgrade to more power.

Some other programs/hardware like Hondata are AEM EMS, Uberdata, Crome, Turboedit, Neptune, Greddy eManage. You'll hear the names all the time on the Honda tuning scene.

Did you read the article? Hondata is actually more of a standalone than a piggyback even though it doesn't replace the entire ecu.

With the exception of the s300, Hondata is nothing more than software you use to burn chips. It's just a program tuners can use to change A/F, timing, rpm limits, vtec, etc... Either way it's way too expensive when you have Crome, Uberdata, and Neptune available. Hondata does work great though. It's not a standalone either because it still uses the stock ECU. The Hondata website explains fairly well what it does.

Yeah, but it's not really a piggyback either.

he didnt say it was a piggyback, piggybacks are v-afc's, emanage that stuff that modify signals to change how the ecu adds fuel/timing, while neptune, hondata, all those dont modify signals at all.

I know, I'm just trying to point out that Hondata is closer to a standalone than a piggyback.
