Default what can I expect from my intercooler??

I know it's going to cool the intake charge down which equates to less risk of detonation and a little more power...

but how much could I realistically expect from the intercooler right now power wise??

just a d16y8 with a standard greddy kit that I turned up to 9psi...

so what would my intercooled vs. non-intercooled power be like? ballpark figures are fine. 3hp? 5hp?

what is ur fuel setup right now? ur running a greddy at 9psi non-intercooled? that's a little risky if nothing else is upgraded. give us some more info on ur setup. gains will vary with different setups and boost levels but i would at least get a smic for safety

I already got an intercooler...from this guy.

http://www.johnnyracecar.com, named tyrus who sells em on ebay.

It's just got a blue box and still running nice and rich (pretty sure I'm maxing out the fuel injectors/pump but I don't care right now )

I don't boost it to max enough to cause damage at this point.

um here's more on my setup:

stock d16y8
msd 8.5mm wires, blaster ss coil, msd sci ignition box
92-95 greddy turbocharger kit
greddy type-s bov
"tyrus" intercooler

after I get the cooler on I'm going to toss on a zdyne ecu, 450cc injectors, a 2 bar map sensor, walbro 255lph fuelpump, and a Mr. Gasket multilayered head gasket w/steel shims...

then we'll see just what kinda boost pressure stock d-series internals can take

but anyway, any brief info on gains with the cooler at this point??

its not the power gain you will get with the IC...its how much more boost you can push that will result in more power gain.

the ignition you posted will probably be a waste of money unless your pushing 300+ hp

well, it's been on the car for quite a while and really helps with throttle response and idle control so that pays for it in itself

if you say I can run more boost on my setup...even better...I'm at 9psi on stock internals with a blue box...

how much more you think I could go with the intercooler safely?...lets not think about the fuel system right now...just pure boost levels...

HINT: I'm trying to out-flow the fuelpump/injectors to justify to myself the aftermarket parts at this point :D

well your at 9 right now with no IC...so i would imagine your putting the car at risk for detenation. putting a IC will cool the charge.
With your setup with IC and on 91 octane my experience 10psi. get a baseline dyno with af to see what it looks like...only way to confirm.

I don't see 9psi unless I floor it from 4k to redline...most of the time under part throttle I only see about 4psi or so...

that's why I haven't been too worried about anything.

never had detonation and I'm running rish as hell I can tell you that much...doesn't look like it'll lean out for quite a while either....damn blue box seems to dump gas proportional to map reading...so I think I'm good to 11psi or so I think I'm good there...

hmm weird you should be hiting full boost relativly early..specially with a greddy turbo. exhaust to small?

just because the car is rich doesnt me it will not detonate...runnung rich can also increase temps

moving forward...an IC will definitly be a good upgrade

I'm running the stock 98 civic ex exhaust system on my car and have always been wondering why it takes so long to hit full boost when I actually DO push it hard...

at part throttle I should still see full boost at whatever I have it set at??

sorry, this is my first turbo experience and only been doing it for a few months...still learning/wondering

at part throttle its hard to say..but i doubt you will see full boost its really going to vary. But with my car i hit full boost at 4k and i know my turbo is bigger. Im going to guess that you should be spooling at 2-3k and fully boosted before 4k.

the exhaust is probably hindering the exhaust flow.

if you mean this is only under full throttle then I know I'm cool as this is about what's happening...I was just saying conservative numbers...usually under about part throttle at say...70mph I get 4-5psi of boost after about 2-3 seconds.

from a stand-still if I floor it I start spooling at about 2k...full boost by about 4-4500 (9psi) and then it's solid on until I shift or redline...and mighty fun too

Those are damn good intercoolers. Not one unhappy customer after who knows how many sold.
