What size feed line are you running? Also have you done a compression test on your motor to make sure it is fine? Alot of people blow their oil seals because they use too big of a feed line, dunno why they even make the -4 lines, use a -3 and a restrictor if need be. Also run a good crankcase ventilation/catch can set up on the car

i think i had a combination of problems....i had no oil restricter, the turbo was 3000 miles used supposedly "mint", and i installed a oil catch can setup about 10 miles before the turbo blew.....i guess its time to rebuild and order a restrictor.....you learn from your mistakes

Ive heard of the Garrett turbos going like this before. For instance my buddys spec was arround 150 miles on the new motor and turbo setup one nigh we took it out to do some more highway break in and suddenly smelled something burning. We pull over and open the hood the turbo was glowing red ! But being the good people that they are, Garrett replaced it free of charge although there were questions about oil starvation and other things that may have caused this.

About this pil restrictor though, would this cause a turbo to burn oil out the exhaust? a little bit of greyish smoke here and now possibly?

this is why I never buy used parts, every thin you buy that is turbo related has only "<1k miles" and when you get it, it breaks. i would def try the restrictor before you rebuild.

And your better off to send the turbo in for a rebuild to make sure it is 100% balanced.

it is used so anything is possible... worth trying some simple things though before you decide to take it off and send it in for a rebuild. it may not need it. could just be too much oil pressure is pushing oil past the seals, in which case an oil restrictor will fix it cheaply.
