Ways to make my b16 with less power be faster then my friend(s) LS- Vtec's.
I have 5 friends in the area with LS - Vtec setups that make over 400whp, Im building a b16 setup, identical to my other friends who dyno'd 384whp (ill change it a little bit to make 400).
Now the fact is, they will have more power then me, and most likely beat me pretty much everytime, im fine with that, but i'd like to give them a close call.
So I'd like to use the weak points of LSvtec against it and use the advantages of the b16.
So far ways i've came up to be close to them is...
Have a better power curve (t3/t4 60trim very smooth curve)
Rev Higher then them
Get more traction then them
Be lighter then them (CRX Si - me, EG hatches - pretty much all of them, 1 DA teg)
The extra tourque that the LSvtec will make, and the bigger turbo they run will cause them to break traction alot sooner and easier, the guy who had my setup, hoocked up in first with BFG's and OBX diff (quite impressive imo).
Anything im missing?
Edit: Also forgot have shorter gearing then them, i'm using B16 tranny, most of them are using LS tranny, which would mean I'd have to shift more, but be in the power band more too, which is why revving higher will also make me stay in the power band more.

Man U FTW
run a better turbo that spools faster, but still has a lot of pull in the top end. PM The Shodan and you'll beat your friend...he can basically do anything...lol

Not looking to sleeve it, not looking at running race gas, and not looking to go more then 20 psi on the 60 trim.

well rods and pistons are already sitting there next to the b16, kinda started to go that route, i'd have to sell all of that off, and go out looking for an LS block, sell my rods.. etc
not looking to make any more then 400, so it dosnt really matter wheither I use the LSv or the b16

If your at least close in the weight subject then that going to be good, but being that your lighter then thats going to help.
Your going to have to focus on the traction factor as much as possible. A lot of times people over look that. The less wheel spinning your doing, the harder your going to be pulling. Definatly look at LSD / good tires and if needed, traction bars, and good mounts.
This info is all subject to your driving, if you can out drive them then most likley, u'll still take 'em even if they have more power.
*also keep in mind, the better your setup can flow, the quicker you'll be able to spool up. Make sure that you don't have Any restrictions in your piping.

traction bar, DR, good mounts, LSD, e-cut out (faster spool), oh and i think si crx weigh about the same as cx hatches, so you might not have weight advantages in some cases.

your running them off the line correct? as long as you have something that hooks, you should hang if not beat them if youre running similar power levels. that b16 tranny can get through the gears as long as your grabbing, but if you cant grab at all then it will be a disadvantage.
why dont you explain your exact motor set up right now? im confused if youre already turbo or if youre going to go turbo..?

Re: (zeimbo)
Im going turbo, but already have most of the parts I need, so im not changing my mind anytime soon.
B16a
B16 tranny with OBX LSD
Nearly identical setup made 382 wheel, im going for 400 with slight improvements over the other one.
BFG Drag Radials
Custom Traction Bar
Hasport mounts stiffened.
T3/T4 60 Trim
Debating on gear based boost controller
My buddies Dyno with similar setup:
Source : Synapsemotorsport, Tuner, Matt Ryan, owner
The cars i'll be up against:
LSVT
Source: Synapsemotorsport, Tuner, Owens, Owner
And similar
Im not even going to post the 500+Whp civic because i know I have no chance.

Re: (Vovchandr)
what kind of suspension are you running or going to run? thats also gonna have a lot to do with your traction. grabbing is gonna be very important cuz that b16 will go through the gears quickly. you may want to see about switching to an rsx hub assembly and rsx axles.
you may also want to go with a more aggressive cam set up as it doesnt look like youre seeing boost really until about 5k and youre gonna want low end cuz the ls/vtec turbo pulls hard top end

If not metioned before.
Throw out all your interior..
Two seats, safetybelt and a steering weel is more than enough
Best way to make a car faster without adding HP is by making it lighter..
