Wastegate Help....
Ok this is my first step in to forced induction, and i was wondering about the wastegate, i have a generic ebay one im looking to replace in a little bit, but for now, i was wondering about running an open dump? what does it do? positives, negatives? do or dont?
Open dump is pretty much just dumping exhaust fumes to atmosphere and a closed dump is exactly that it will remain closed and recirculate the fumes back into the exhaust. The only downfalls I can see is state emmisions might frown on an open dump tube and it has been said that an open dump will get a bit more power but I havent seen any charts to prove it?
thanks, i dont really care baout the emission i was just wondering if it would cause damage or harm., now my next step is lookin for a replacement wasetgate, any body got any recomendations? budget build.
Probably the most important thing about a dumptube(if it isn't recirculated into the downpipe/exhaust) is that it should be long enough to route gated exhaust gases well away from the intake side of the turbo. This means that extremely short dumptubes(or none at all) are a big no-no. As for a good budget wastegate, you can't go wrong with TiAL, and their 38mm gates are ~$200 new, and much less if you find a used one.
I am running a Tial on my setup and I am making what it says in my sig and its a 38mm so you dont need anything huge to make power and be able to control it.Tial is the way to go man or maybe turbosmart but I recommend Tial
thanks again, so the tial? and about the dump tube, where did you route yours? or did u at all. oh yeh, will a shitty wastegate cause boost creep?
about the location of the dumptube dump location, just get it away from the intake side. A lot fo people route it in parallel with the downpipe, or just downward in a similar fashion. And to the question about the wastegate creep, the short answer is yes. But there are other things that could attribute to boost creep.
