vtec noise when running low compression
hey all,
Ive just finished my complete rebuild. Its running on Arias 8.5:1 low compression pistons everything else is race grade apart from standard B16a2 cam shafts. Its running NA at the moment whilst i get all the internals run-in. Because its NA ive got the j's racing Tsuchinoko intake and a Jun 4-1 manifold 70mm test pipe and skunk2 mega power RR and an EK9 ecu.
On most dohc vtecs running something similar but normal compression, when the vtec kicks in, the noise increases drastically and everything goes into overdrive.
with mine the vtec kicks in and the revs shot up and you get all the power and accelaration but there is not really any noticable change in noise........is this normal when running low compression? and im i just being paranoid.

Re: vtec noise when running low compression
You're using low compression on an N/A build. The computer is not set to deal with the lower effective compression that you're getting for the VTEC cam lobes to work effectively. (there's a reason why they are designed with higher static compressions in mind. The engineers weren't doing this by accident)
You're not going to get the same crossover or sound or anything like that in its NA form. This is not something we "normally" do, so you will not get a "normal" result.

with the ek9 ecu and not having the proper tune, along with lower compression your crossover will be weaker, its not about how loud your crossover is.. i would be more worried about it if its not working at all

Re: vtec noise when running low compression
My gsr atm is running na with 9:1 my vtec is very loud but that's cause I'm useing a dc heAder with a street bike muffler do that and you'll get your noise back (then again my motor made 190 low compresion so it's still fun to drive)
