Default VTEC Light, VTM VS: VTEC Solenoid wire

I installed my VAFC last night. My VTEC light isn't working now. I have it tee'd into the pink wire (VTEC Solenoid output) so it should turn on whenever the VAFC sends the signal.

I started thinking...wouldn't it be better to get the signal from the VTM wire? This wire gets cut and a substitutes signal goes to the ECM from the VAFC. If I tie my VTEC light into the cut VTM wire I will know when the solenoid actually actuates. That is if I'm thinking correctly about what the VTM wire does.
