vtec head or not?
right now i'm running an ls-t setup at 248 whp 230 tq, but i want more. i have ordered a better turbo manifold, bigger downpipe, bigger boost controller and bigger turbo........but i think i'm still gonna want more. (you guys know how it is).
the thing is, i'm sitting on a b16 head just staring at me, but i'm not trying to pull the WHOLE motor out to put the b16 head on (not to mention i'll need to spend more money for ls/vtec kit, intake manifold, gsr headstuds....etc.) but if it will be WAY worth it, then i guess i'll go ahead and dish out more money in parts and go ahead and do it.
so there's two questions i've got. the first one is, should i go ahead and do it, or just be happy w/ 300 whp non-vtec (in an EF)?
the second question involves my current block. I know that it can be done without pulling the block out of the car, but CAN I do it in MY situation (i.e. leave the block in the car, cuz i'm just trying to save some labor here)? Let me be more specific. Here's what has been done to the block:
srp 9.5:1's
eagle rods
arp rod bolts main studs
decked just a bit
line bored
bored .020 over
ls crank knife-edged and micropolished
race bearings (don't remember brand machine shop used)
circuitworks oil pump gear
whole assembly balanced
can't think of anything else, but pretty much fully built except for still on stock sleeves
by the way, the b16 head will stay stock probably for awhile. oh, and my goals are to make this car a lot faster (duh), but without spending much more than what i already have and still be on a conservative tune and have it last for awhile.....
so..........any opinions?

you dont have to pull the motor to put a new head on and it would be the easiest to put on a new intake manifold with the b16 head off.
edit* misunderstanding, yes it is worth it to build the engine and pull the whole motor if your current setup limits u and u want more power
b16 head will be the best mod u do

Re: (turbosnatch)
its worth it in the end, especially if you want to do headwork in the future or upgrade valvetrain (like going to turbo cams). the b16 head has better airflow rates versus the LS head, and the b16 head also has better potential to make more power with upgrades. not to mention this newly gained power will be higher revving at that. if you do LSVTEC, expect to see noteworthy gains immediately over your current setup.....(with a correctly matched turbo and good tuning).

are you serious ... any piston will do better than stock due to being forged. more or less tuning makes or breaks a built motor.

well, i asked for JE, but the machine shop ended up using srp instead.......they seem to be working pretty good so far (over half a year boosting with this setup)
i'm on a good tune from jason aka st00pid..........so no worries here about my srp's........
thanks for the bump, though

You can also get away with using mostly LS headstuds. You will need to replace the two center studs with the shorter gsr ones.

that would be cool considering i am using arp headstuds right now. Where do i go about buying just the two center gsr ones?

Someone was selling them individually when my bro did his ls/vtec conversion. I'm sure the guy has sold them all by now.
Just replace the 2 longer LS headstuds with 2 of the shorter gsr headstuds
