vtec engaging
Is there a way to tell if my vtec is engaging?
A have had my set-up for 2 years now and have never felt the coveted vtec.I have always figured that i couldn't feel it because of the turbo, and plus from what i hear there isn't much to feel.
A buddy of mine took my car for a test run and when he came back he said that he couldn't feel the vtec and that he doesn't think that it's engaging. He has the same exact set-up as me (b16a turbo). So is there a way to tell if it's working? wouldn't it throw a code if it wasn't?What kind of problems would i encounter if it wasn't engaging? His car seems to pull so much harder then mine and he's only runing 4.5psi of boost and mine goes to 7psi then drops off to 4.5psi,So it may be just my imagination since i do have pressure loss but we both have the same amount of boost in the end. Also he has a t3t4 .60 / .72 (i think). i know the larger turbo will flow more but it seems like quite a big difference. mine is only a t-3 .42 / .48 trim.

this should tell you if a signal is being sent from your ecu to your vtec solenoid...

Yeah i know, but there is definatly a difference between my car and my buddies around 5,000rpm (i have no tach so i don't know for sure).I have driven my other buddies gs-r and i couldn't feel any difference between the two lobes.I guess i just need a bigger turbo
to overcome this pressure loss problem i also have.....btw i have never heard any difference either, my engine is quiet all the way to redline with the exception of the nice whinning sound of the turbo spooling, that was another comment that he has made.....no noticable change in tone like his......i guess my car is just a true sleeper (literally)

get a VAFC-you can see when your VTEC engages and change the setting so that it's actually kicking it at a better point in the rpms... or, one of those homemade vtec lights...
edit: ok, here's a pic... i set my vtec to kick in at 3500 rpms which seems to work for me and my auto...
