Hi Guys
I got my newly boosted D16 Delsol set up on the dyno yesterday.
On the dyno it ran great with no problems and made 250 BHP @ 8psi ,at the wheels.
When we went for the test drive on the road it ran great until we hit vtec at 6000rpm. As soon as we hit it the car started goin in and out of vtec quite violently.
We went back to the garage and checked the oil but it was o.k. we had a small oil leak in the oil feed line but we fixed that.
We put it back on the dyno and it ran great again. But as soon as we got onto the road we had the same problem at 6000rpm.
We decided to move the vtec point, and whatever revs we moved it to is where the problem started.
My suspisions point to either the oil pressure sensor or the vtec solenoid being the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so how was it fixed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

can u email me your file?
I had a similar issue when driving partial throttle.
When we got done tuning, we forgot to change the vtec engagment throttle position and engagment point
It was bouncing in and out of VTEV

My tuners got the map file.
Its o.k on partial throttle.
The vtec was set to engage at 6000rpm and with over 50% throttle. But as soon as it hits vtec it starts "kangaroo-ing" and loses power. I thought maybe the standard MAP sensor could be the problem .We were only at 8psi ,but we lowered the boost anyway and it still did it. Its definately related to the vtec system because it only does it as soon at vtec is engaged. !! and wherever we set the vtec engagement the problem moved to that rev range.

I know its going in and out of vtec because with the lap top plugged in the hondata screen changes when it reaches vtec and it keeps flipping from the vtec screen to the non-vtec screen.
Yeah checking the plugs seems to be the answer. Its just strange how it doesnt have a problem on the dyno. But on the road it as the problem. Gravity/inertia seems to be playing a big part in the problem.

I know that you said ur tuner has the file, but can u connect a computer and download the map, then send it to me to look at?
Can't u try disabling the vtec oil pressure sensor? I would mess with those settings to see what you come up with.
I am sure the stock map sensor is fine. It can read 8 psi no problem.

I mentioned to my tuner about the posibility of it being a spark plug problem. And its come to light that the plugs i supplied to be fitted to the car were never fitted and have gone missing. So if the problem re-occurs when the correct plugs are fitted then we'll have to look at other posibilities. Maybe disable vtec altogether.

most vtec related breakups are either fueling issues or ignition gremlins. that seems to be your problem as well since the additional load of the car being out on the road causes it, but not the light load of the dyno.

Well just go my new plugs and the problem hasn't been fixed by fitting them. So just ordered a new vtec solenoid/pressure switch. Hope that fixes it cuz its costing me £300 from honda. And if that doesnt work i dont have a clue what am gonna do !!!
Any sugestions would be great. But i think its safe to say it aint the plugs !!
Help please !
