Vortech supercharger....
I'm picking up a GSR with a Vortech Supercharger soon. What should I look for to check if the supercharger is still in good functioning condition? I've read that a few people have had problems with the Vortec (the older version). I was told that this Vortech supercharger was purchased last year and has had no problems. I don't know much about superchargers because I've never really thought about going this route of forced induction.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Ok not entirely the same but I want to tell you about my experience with a vortech powered b16. was a friends car a 93 EX coupe, 10lbs stock compression, car felt gutless down low and didnt have even decent top end. The shell was sold, and the b16 was built and thrown in an eg hatch, 11.0 compression and 10psi again, didnt feel too gutless down low, and had better top end, but not nearly enough. u could get used to the power in 1 hour tops. I know this has nothing to do with your question, but you might want to look into a turbo setup.

Re: (Boostage)
They suck. Don't buy it. I've had one and yeah they do feel gutless, plus they don't make them anymore for the B16 (should tell you something). Now I have turbo!!! Much, much more fun and powerful.

Re: (specie)
i dont think anyone's saying they dont necessarily LIKE them but for the same price you could run a nice small t25 (good driveability AND better low end power).
compare the t25 at 10psi to the vortech at 10psi and they wont even compare.
turbo owns
oh and in a turbo system. theres always room to upgrade...you can only change so many pulleys on a supercharger

Re: (5litereater)
Definitely prefer turbo myself, that's why I'm lacking knowledge on superchargers. However, I might pick up a car with a supercharger already on it.

Unless it's no more expensive than a stock GSR I wouldn't do it.
A buddy of mine's Vortech is pullied to make 15 pounds of boost at the redline, and at 4500 RPM's it's only making about 2 pounds of boost. At 6500 it makes about ~7 pounds. You could have a T3/T67 HO spooled up quicker than that. I really don't like them on high redline, small displacement motors.
