Vortech SC possibility?
The car is a 92 Civic CX(no P/S duh)
Motor is a B20VTEC w/ B17 crank, built.
I'm considering going boost with the Vortech kit, but I am unsure.
I'm already planning to swap the 12.3:1 pistons for some 9:1 or 9.5:1.. but aside from that, I am curious of the power steering issue.
Granted, I don't have power steering.. so I'm assuming I would have to mount a pump where it would normally go, for the SC to function.
I was planning on putting *some* fluid in the pump, and looping it with a hose. Will this work alright, or will it burn out the pump?
(Not that burning out the pump matters.. but could it seize up?)
Also, are there mounting brackets, etc. for this kit, or is it pretty universal, like a custom turbo kit?
Obviously if it's meant for a 99Si, and I have a CX... I am expecting SOME customization...
Lastly.. WHO HAS THIS KIT? What's your setup, and how much boost are you running?
For those wondering why I want to do this, I saw a stock 99si put down 228/150 to the wheels. STOCK. I think high 300hp @ the wheels is easily attainable with a B20 and Hondata.
Thanks!

I can't answer all your questions but on the last part, Mike @ Diablo Autosports had a customer with a Vortech SC with the 10lb and he made 280 whp.

Yes, I've seen the peaky powerband of the Vortech.. I am used to peaky power with my Jun cams. LOL.
Plus, I think it'd be nice to see my SMSP header go to good use with this charger, whereas with a turbo, the header would be collecting dust.
You had any personal experiences with these, John?

no personal experience. All these Tampa peeps are just now catching on to turbo lol.
I like my torque big, fat, and readily available. Like this -
12lbs on a turbo B20VTEC. Check out the graph at 5250 - over 200whp, 200ftlbs. And no slipping belts to worry about.

That Bonneville Salts b20vtec made 440 to the wheels @ 15 psi. The charger still had 10psi left before it would see terminal speed for the v-5sq (65,000 rpms). You be the judge. On the Vortech site the v-5sq claims to be able to flow 575hp effciently
here is a compressor map for the s trim.. Ill have some numbers this summer on what the v5 maxes out at.

A vortech charger is best suited to a motor that has an abundance of low end torque without much top end. A well balanced motor is a fast motor.
