Default vband

Perhaps a noob question, but what's the advantage of running vband vs conventional flange?

I often see conventional turbo flanges loosening themselves after a while, will vband help with this?

ive never had a v band come loose. they use a lock type nut on them, and i cant complain how much easier everything is to work on/ & fab.

the main advantage is ease of service. 1 screw instead of 3 or 4.

Depending on what kind of room you have you can weld a 3" vband directly to your turbo housing. As far as the shop goes. Maybe there is no room for a 3"?

another "noob" question...

are there any turbos that are v band compatible by default or does the hot side of the turbo need to be swapped out?

seems to me v band setups would generally be prone to leakage but I don't have any personal experience with them so who knows.

you can run v band on anything if you have the room. My turbo comes with a 4 bolt, and they make a conversion from the 4 bolt to 3" v-band. It's ALOT easier to work on.
Some turbos come with them, usually the larger turbos it's standard b/c they run larger downpipes. I run a full 3" exhaust and when you tear down motors alot the v-band conversion is nice cuz it's alot quicker, and they never come loose like the bolt flanges

If you cant get the vband hot side you can always have your fab guy do it for you
